Hi

I have just bought a Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit TL-PA7017P and a pair of Tapo P105 Smart Plugs so that I can get the internet to a blackspot and use the plug to switch the boiler on/off when we are away. The PowerLines work fine, as do the Tapo P105s in isolation - but the 105s look for wi-fi, how do I get them to use the internet connection provided by the PowerLine?

Many thanks

Clive

Tapo P105 requires a WiFi connection but the the powerline TL-PA7017P provides an ethernet connection only. A network extension device that provides WiFi signal is required in your case, such as a wireless range extender, a wireless powerline device, or a wireless access point.

Many thanks Wayne. Unfortunately I have tried various wi-fi extenders, but the boiler room is 1.5m of thick stone away from an area I could get wi-fi into. Nothing gets through that wall apart from Powerline technology, is there a different plug or different poweline product you are aware of that could work?

Cheers

Clive

I recommend reaching out to the Home Network community for assistance.

However, given your situation with thick stone walls that interfere with the signal, I believe the best solution is to run an ethernet cable to the desired location and connect a network extension device.

If I did that Wayne, that is the same as me using Poweline - which gives me an ethernet port in the boiler room. The issue is still finding a Smart plug that can connect to the ethernet socket via cable. Mind you a wi-fi extender that connects to the ethernet from the Powerline could then give the smartplug something to connect to... Hmm

Tapo or Kasa does not have a smart plug that have an ethernet port for network connection.
