Tapo C225 camera cannot pair to Wifi 6 router
I bought a Tapo C225 V2.EU (version) camera and am trying to pair it with a router on a 2.4 bandwidth. Let me describe what I followed:
1) I noticed that my wifi had the band steering mode on. Thus I turned it off and created two different MAIN networks (2.4 and 5). Each network has a separate SSID and a password.
2) After disabling the band steering mode, I assured both networks had WPA/WPA2-personal security.
3) Then I followed the instructions of the Tapo APP (Android) and everything worked as expected, except the last part of PAIRING the device with the router.
- Bluetooth pair -> DONE
- Wifi identification (2.4) -> DONE
- Wifi connection (with voice instructions) -> DONE
- Device PAIR -> Failed.
While searching online I also found a different way to select the Tap_XXX_XXX network from my wifi settings. Even though I found the network while connecting, I noticed that the network was in wifi 4 (version) while my router is wifi 6 and also the network SSID Tapo_XXX_XXX did not broadcast connectivity.
Thus, I tried the whole process again with my mobile HOTSPOT. I turned my mobile device to a hotspot and followed the app instructions. Everything worked as expected. But this is not my ideal scenario because I want a wifi connectivity, not a mobile hotspot.
My Wifi settings have the following configuration:
* Mac address filtering is disabled
* Band steering is off
* Network channel set to [1,6,11] -> mine is set to 6
* Network Encryption is set to WPA or WPA2 (NOT WPA3)
* Client isolation is disabled
* Never configured port blocking
* Network password has been checked multiple times.
Thanks a lot for any help/advice in advance.
Kind regards,
Nikos S.

Hello. I am having similar issues with frequent disconnects as what has been discussed in this thread.
I have a tp-link deco xe75 mesh wifi system.
I also have 4 tapo cameras:
1 c110
1 c200
2 c310
I have followed the steps in this thread, including changing my dhcp to follow the 192.168.0.xx format. I have tried many, many other combinations of things based on what the deco system settings offer, including changing the DNS, disabling beamforwarding, changing the security on the network, etc.
In the process I have royally jacked up the rest of my smart home, all in the hopes of getting these tapo cameras working. I guess I hoped once they were solid, I could build the rest back but I'm growing unsure. I am close to pulling the deco out and switching back to letting the AT&T fiber gateway function as both modem and router (yuck!!).
All that being said, if this firmware works on the cameras I mentioned and allows me to use the cameras, get the rest of my smart home online, and stick with the deco system...that would be fantastic.
I have been trying to go heavier into the tp-link ecosystem, both with networking and smart home devices, but running into issues at every turn.
I'm wondering if you could share the firmware and also point me to some network help.
Thank you.
Is the initial problem with your cameras failing to pair with the Deco XE75 router during the setup process? Or is it just a disconnection problem?
If it is a disconnection issue, your case is irrelevant to the problem discussed in this thread. I would recommend you post a new thread if there are more details added.
Regarding the disconnection problem, please clarify whether the device is disconnected by WiFi or cloud (unable to watch the camera remotely). If it is the former, how do you determine that the camera is disconnected from the WiFi?
