Are your EAP and Controller in the same subnet? Error "time out" also could be incorrect username and password. You can try to login in the EAP without using Controller to make sure you hava the right username and password. Then just try again.

I am having the same problem of not able to adopt EAP220 into the EAP Controler. The EAP and Controller are in the same subnet. And the username and password are correct as I can use them to login to the EAP.
Please advise what to do next.

You could ping from your computer which runs the EAP controller software. If you could ping and see the EAP from controller, i would advise you to check whether your EAP firmware could work with Controller.
Make sure that the firmware of them are all latest. http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/EAP220.html#Firmware; http://www.tp-link.com/en/download/EAP220.html#EAP_Controller. If it still can't work, you could reset the EAP, and run controller to adopt EAP again using admin as default username and password.

I could ping the EAP220 from the PC running the EAP Controller. There were 4 EAP220 and none of them could be adopted successfully.
The EAP Controller is version 2.0.3 and the firmware of the EAP220 is 2.0.1 Build 20150731 Rel. 63146, which are the latest.
I haven't try resetting the EAP220 and adopt again.
Cheers.

EAP110-Outdoor - Unable to Adopt
2018-06-17 07:28:42
I'm having similar issues with my EAP 110. I've reset the physical device numerous times but it will not forget the AP settings and the original username and password which I cannot remember. Any ideas?

The thread you are posting is from 2015/2016. Do you use this old firmware on your EAP110? If so, upgrade the EAP110's firmware and the Controller to the latest version.

Bringing up an old thread but the same is happening to me with my EAP220s. All firmware on the APs are updated to the newest. I have the newest version of the Omada Controller. I can log into the APs seperately with the correct username and passwords. Yet when trying to adopt in the controller I get "failed to adopt the AP. The username or password is wrong". Everything is on the same subnet, I am able to ping from computer with controller installed.
Any idea's on what may be causing my issue?
Thank you
