Model: EAP650-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0

Hello everyone,

I recently discovered a stupid error that I hadn't even noticed.

I have a site where 3 EAP650-Outdoor are installed.

The first AP is connected by cable to the switch directly behind the router. The second AP is connected to the first AP via mesh. The third AP is connected to the second AP via cable (and PoE switch in between).

Router <> AP 1 ))) ((( AP 2 <> AP 3

I updated all the APs a few days ago. I noticed that “AP 3” then connected to “AP 1”, which was a much poorer connection.

I have now said in the controller settings that the devices are not allowed to search for a mesh failover. In my opinion, however, this is not yet the right function for me. I would rather say that “AP 3” is never allowed to do mesh, i.e. prohibit it. This option does not seem to exist. But was there once?

How can I prevent 100% that if “AP 2” fails or makes an update, that “AP 3” does not search for a connection via Mesh? Or is that correct and sufficient?

BR Tim

  @TW_EPC

Agree 10000%.  TPlink needs to allow for more determinism in their meshing, especially in situations where meshable APs are cable connected to each other (and you have the need to force one to always be a child AP and the other always to be root AP).  Current mesh firmware cannot guarantee that this linear system which should be A)(B-C doesn't sometimes come up as A)(C-B.

Hi Vincent, that would be a completely stupid solution. Of course it would be possible, but I wouldn't want it that way. There has to be another solution. Please include it as a feature request.
