Hi,
Please check if you have selected the Day Mode on the Tapo app>Live view page of the Tapo C420. If so, change this option to Auto for a try.
If the problem remains, please help confirm the following information.
1. Please take a screenshot of the Tapo C420's Live view page in the daytime and nighttime.
2. On the Camera Settings page of the Tapo C420, please go to the Night Mode Settings and then send me a picture of it. Then go to the Spotlight Brightness page and send me a picture of it.
3. Send me the link to download the above pictures via private message.
Best Regards

I have the same problem with my C420. In auto mode it will not automatically switch to night vision in total darkness !
It did work fine the first month.
Battery is at 78%
I tried to restart camera by removing battery for about one minute.
It also won't record or send notifikations when detecting motions. Only the green LED comes on when it detects motions. Only when the Infrared light are on it records in night (total darkness)

Hi,
When the camera selects the Auto mode on the Live View page but does not switch to night mode in the night, please send me a picture of the camera's Live View page.

this is an example on how it can look. Remember that I also get no motion detection notification and No recording at the same time. Only the green led turns on !
It did work in the beginning .Camera is about 1 Month Old. Firmware up to date.

Hi,
Thank you for the information and the picture, and it seems the camera has an issue. You can contact the retailer or local support to check if your camera is under warranty.

Hi,
I have now charged the battery to 100% and the issue seems to have gone.
It seems the issue begins happening when the battery capacity comes below aprox 85%
I have two cameras and both have the issue so dont Think it's a hardware issue but a software issue that should be fixed with a firmware upgrade ?
what do you think ?
Have you tried to replicate with low battery capacity ?

Hi,
Tapo C420 switches day/night mode based on the reading value of its photosensitive components. Logically, it has nothing to do with the camera firmware and battery power. Therefore, it is recommended to contact the retailer or local support for replacement first.

Well, software issue or not, all I Can say is that it is now working for BOTH cameras. And the ONLY thing I did was recharging the batteries to 100%

I have the same problem; I have two C420S2 cameras and set up the first of them last night. Everything works fine except the camera does not automatically switch from Day Mode to Night Mode. Manually selecting the change switches to IR on. I'll switch to the second camera and see if the problem replicates.
