Hi,
The Tapo C420 does not detect motion or person unless it's close around 10 ft may be related to the detection settings of the camera and its position.

1. On the Tapo app>Camera Settings page of the C420>Detection & Alerts>Wake-up Sensitivity page, please check if the sensitivity is set to a high value.
Please note that higher sensitivity results in longer detection distance, easier wake-up, and more recordings, but will reduce batter quicker.

2. On the Detection & Alerts>Motion Detection/Person Detection page, please check if the sensitivity is set to a high value.
Please note that higher sensitivity results in fewer missed recordings and notifications.

3. Adjust the position of the Tapo C420 if possible. If it's far away from the area that needs to be monitored, it may result in more missed recordings.
