Here are some suggestions if plug firmware update failed:
- Turn off or lower Firewall settings on the router & modem
- To help exclude the issue, you could connect plug to a Hotspot Wi-Fi or a different Wi-Fi and see if plug could upgrade the firmware
- Ensure Tapo APP is the latest version in Goolge Play or APP store
If still no luck, kindly help confirm the information here, and we would like to look into the issue further, thank you.
- Model of router:
- Network topology ,e.g. ISP XX ---- Router model Archer C7 <wireless> Tapo P100
- Mac address of plug (you could send via private message)
- exact Error message on the APP

Hi,
i finally managed to update the plug to the latest firmware 1.4.9 build 20210621 Rel. 30941
As you suggested in the mail, at first, i connected the plug in a local wifi hotspot created by an old android phone and then i opened the data to the internet so the plug and the tapo app could download/apply the update and... it succeeded!!!
So both plugs are now updated to the last firmware.
Thanks for the support.

@Angus1972 Hello,
Sorry for the delayed reply, from the cloud it seems that tapo plugs are offline.
Make sure when your phone is not on home wifi, on outside Wi-Fi or mobile data, plugs are still accessible.
If you do not use plugs for local only, try to reboot router and restart tp-link plug and see if it could become accessible remotely.
Or you could try to factory reset plug and add them back to tapo app again.

Same problem here.
I bought a new box with 2 tapo p100 sockets (Tapo P100(2-pack)(EU) Ver 1.20 - S/N:2213339X02074) and only one of them has updated to the latest firmware version
I have factory reset/reconnect the plug many times but always have the "update failed" message.
Device info :
Model : P100
MAC : E8-48-B8-94-62-87
Hardware Version : 1.20.0
Firmware Version : 1.4.5 Build 20210122 Rel. 57265 (and it fails to update at 1.4.9 build 20210621 Rel. 30941)
Is any solution for this problem?
Thanks

Same here I have 4 x P100 v1.2 that will not upgrade from 1.4.5 to 1.4.9.
Seems like Tapo/TPLink have some issues with upgrades and have yet to address this issue.

Thank you for the detailed information, if one of the plugs is on FW 1.4.9, may I know does both plug try to connect the same wireless network?

I ended up resetting 1 of the 4 P100's. Updated the firmware then the other 3 upgraded without any issues.
no router reboots were done.
This sounds more like a software issue than anything else more likely with the Tapo application than anything else
