Model: Tapo P100
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.3 build 20191017

The "Away mode" function does not work. I set start and end time and the socket should turn device on and off at random between times set. This does not work. Firmware is up to date. Tried both android phone and iPad but no difference. Have two of these P100 sockets and both the same problem.

any advice please?

thank you

@Crad20

Thanks for your updates, I confirmed with our engineer, the away mode does take effect during 19:30-24:00, while even if you set up from 7:00am-23:00, the away mode should work since 19:30. But you mentioned that there is no runtime at all. We can do further analysis of it.

1. What is the current firmware version of your smart plug?

2. Please ensure that the Tapo app is up to date.

3. Besides, please show us a screenshot of the runtime page after you set up the away mode but no response.

Thanks a lot.

May I know who do you evaluate that the away mode does not work? Any specific symptoms?

Below are some guidelines you can reference. Go to Q4.

@Crad20 I set a start and end time for 7 days a week for the away mode. The device connected to the smart plug ,example,  a lamp should be turned on and off at random between the set times.

This is not working.

I have reset the smart plug and re configured it. The shedule mode and the timer mode both work ok.

I have 2 of these P100 smart plugs and both have the same problem.

Maybe i am doing something wrong.

thank you for any help.

@Crad20

Hello, you mentioned that it is not working, do you mean that the smart plug won't turn it on or off randomly in the whole week? Does it keep the original status? Cause it happens randomly. mostly we cannot track the history or spend so much time to observe it.

Meanwhile, you said that both P100 has the same problem, it is rare that the away mode does not work on all three devices, even though they have different models.

Try to delete the App and reinstall them, and you can re-enable away mode to give it a go; if possible, change another phone to repeat it.

Besides, when did you buy these plugs?

Good day.

@Crad20 hi, I have just purchased these smart plugs. I have tried using my iPad and my android phone but still get the same problem. For example I have set the start time as 07-00hr and the end time as 23-00hr but the device does not turn on and off at random . The device shows the run time and is this is zero. I have re installed the app and reset and reconfigured the smart plug but it does not solve the problem. It looks like others in the tp community have the same issue. I contacted tp technical support yesterday who could not  resolve this issue and are looking into it.

the schedule mode and timer mode work ok.

it appears a design fault to me.

@Crad20 TP Link technical have investigated this problem and ther response is:

The away mode random function will only work between the hours of 19-30hrs and  00-00hrs.

Any other time the device will remain Off.

I have set these times on my device and it does operate after 19-30 hrs.

This seriously lets down an otherwise excellent device.
ideally a user needs to specify their own start and end times to suit their own particular needs.

However they have answered the question and cleared up this matter.

@Kevin_Z my devices are working after 19-30hrs.

The fact that a user cannot set their own time to suit their particular needs is a serious flaw it the design.

For example here in the U.K in winter it is dark at 16-00hrs and ideally it

needs to operate at random from 16-00hrs but this is not possible due to the inherent design.

The fact that the away mode random function only operates between 19-30 hrs and 00-00hrs lets down an otherwise excellent device.
