Problem when creating a second wifi with same name and password
Friday

My father has many tapos of different models in his home. Some are very distant and have bad connection. I created another router with the same SSID and password as the other router to which the cameras are already connected.

I sent to him and he connected it. It was in AP mode, so he just plugged in and internet worked (I created a new SSID as well just to connect and confirm it was the new router).

The problem is that all the cameras went offline for 2 days, we tried rebooting all of them (disconnecting and connecting the power plug), and also waited to see if they would come back online, but none of them did. They only worked again when we unplugged the new router from the power plug, therefore turning him off.

Is there a reason for this to happen? I need to have many routers with the same SSID and password through the house so the cameras connect to the best one.

Both routers must be connected with a cable

or with the second one in access point mode.

Two

use a range extender

@Romuleo the second one is connected in AP mode, via cable, to the first one, which connects to the internet. Connecting to an SSID exclusive for the second shows it has internet connection, so it is working.

I wonder why the cameras won't connect, and only came back when I turned off the AP router

Hi,
The problem may be related to your network diagram, router settings, or AP settings. Please confirm the following information for analysis.

  1. What's the model number and version info of your router and AP? Please describe your network diagram, such as internet cable -- Wi-Fi router --AP )))((( cameras, etc.

  2. Do you have special settings on your AP, such as VLAN? Can you set a different 2.4G Wi-Fi name on the AP for the camera to connect, and then check if the camera will work fine?

  3. How about the LED status on the camera when the issue occurs? If you move the camera close to the Wi-Fi router and reboot the camera, will it connect to the router's Wi-Fi and work again?

  4. What's the model number of your camera?

Best Regards
