In today's world, ensuring the safety and security of our homes has never been more important. Home security cameras provide an effective way to monitor our surroundings, giving us peace of mind whether we're at home or away. However, simply capturing footage isn't enough; knowing how to save that valuable video to an SD card is crucial for easy access and long-term storage.

In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to save your Tapo camera footage directly to a microSD card, ensuring that your precious moments are safely stored and easily retrievable when you need them.

Step 1. Insert the microSD card into the Tapo camera

1) It's recommended to check the camera's QIG or UG on our official website to insert the microSD card into the camera if you don't know how to do it.
2) Below are the instructions to find a suitable microSD card for your camera.

Step 2. Follow the prompt on the Tapo app to format the microSD card

If you have a problem when formatting the microSD card, please refer to the following instructions.

Step 3. Configure the storage settings

Go to the camera’s Live View page > tap the Settings icon at the top right corner to enter its Device Settings page > go to the Storage & Recording page, then refer to the following steps to configure the storage settings.

    1) Enable the Local Recording option.
    2) Enable the Record Sound option if you want to record sound in the videos.
    3) Tap Local Storage > enable the Loop Recording option if you want the new recordings to overwrite previous recordings when storage is not enough.
    4) Click on Recording Schedule > tap Edit at the top right corner > set a schedule for continuous recording, detection recording, or no recording > tap Save at the top right corner to save your configurations.

The camera will record videos as per your configurations, and you can go to the camera's Live View > Playback & Download > Playback > SD card page to watch them.

Things you need to pay attention to:

1. To store detection video recordings, please go to the camera's Device Settings > Detection page to ensure the Detection types, detection zone, etc., are configured as per your needs.

2. The Tapo battery-powered cameras do not support recording continuous videos, they can only store detection video recordings to the microSD card.

3.  The Tapo battery-powered cameras have a Clip Settings option on the camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recording page, and you can adjust the clip settings as you like.

4. For the Tapo cameras that support storing video recordings to the microSD card inserted into the camera and Tapo hub, such as Tapo C410, C425, etc., please go to the camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recording > Local Storage > Storage Location page, select Camera Storage or Hub Storage, then tap Save to save your selection and store your video recordings to the corresponding location.
