Model: General Product
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: It tells me it’s up to date

I've got two of these switches to test out and see if they can work in a hall where an upper and lower traditional two gang switch are currently installed.

Trying to set up automation so that if the left gang on one switch is turned up, the left gang on the other switch goes on. If one is turned off, the corresponding one goes off etc to mimic the action of the two hard wired double pole mechanical switches.

I can get it all to work fine except one of the S220 switches will not turn the other on. On either button. It'll turn the other switch(s) off as required, but not on. I've deleted and tried again several times, checked the firmware, and these devices were bought new a week ago so must be up there in terms of hardware. Still experimenting with conditions of the action to verify opposite switch status to try and get round the issue but that seems to cause other problems.

I'm wondering if the switch has an issue.
Anyone any thoughts?

Much appreciated.

For any Tapo support people on here, please can you offer advice, noting the following;

today, I set up a new rule set to try and achieve the same thing. This time I used a condition of a single tap on one switch toggling the opposite switch off / on. I find that again, the no 2 switch works fine both for 'off' and 'on'. However the number one switch won't turn on the opposite switch.

I have these two switches bought to replace a broken one at home but until I get this sorted out, I can't use them. Please can I have some advice.

Please check whether other automation rules conflict with your current settings. For example, when the No.2 switch turns on, then it will be turned off by another automation immediately.

Are the S220s wired with any lights? How do you tell its status changes?

Check if there are any errors in the automation History. (Tapo app, the Smart tab > upper right corner, History.)

Please share the automation setup here with screenshots.

Hi there,

I am able to tell the switch status a couple of ways. One is in the app as it indicates if switches are on / off graphically. Also, I have found that I can make the problem switch work correctly if i ask it to carry out two functions (turn on / off the other smart switch, and at the same time, turn off / on a smart plug which turns off / on my desk lamp). If I remove the second function of the light, it seems to stop working.

In terms of rule set conflict, these are two identical switches being asked to do the same thing via the same rule. If one goes on, toggle it's corresponding neighbour to make it mimic the status. If one goes off, toggle off. It works if switch 2 controls 1, but not if one controls 2 (unless I include the lamp). In terms of logic and conflict, the same S220 and same rule set should work both ways.

The switches are not currently connected to anything. They are sat on the desk until I can be sure they will work properly and not prevent the house lights working as required.

Cheers

Ally
