Auto firmware update calamity?
This morning for the first time, my P110 smart switches were OFF. They are all set to be permanently ON, and to default to ON after power outages.
Since I use these to monitor the power usage of my two fridges and a freezer, I have had my confidence severely shaken. If I hadn't noticed I would have a large bill for wasted food.
The only possible cause of this that I can think of is a buggy firmware version. All three of my independent P110s went off at 2am, a typical auto-update time.
Does anybody know what happened and did anybody else experience this?
Will setting "on" timers on the device act as failsafes even if the WiFi is down?

We recommend checking whether the smart plug has been accidentally turned off. Is your TP-Link account or the smart plug shared with anyone? Have you logged into your account on different mobile devices?
Does your Tapo account link to any third-party platforms, such as Alexa or Google Home? Operations on these platforms could inadvertently turn off the smart plug, such as setting up automations or using voice commands to turn off devices (either all or for a specific room).
You can check whether your smart plug has enabled the Auto-Update: go to plug Device Settings page in Tapo app > Firmware Update > Auto Update. How to update the firmware of the Tapo devices on the Tapo App
While firmware upgrades can restart the device, we have not received reports of firmware updates causing the smart plug to remain off. Even if an upgrade fails, the plug always reverts to the ON state.

The three plugs affected could not have accidentally been physically switched off. In fact the switches on all three are physically difficult to access.
Other identical plugs in the house were not switched off.
The only common factor is that they were all three in my kitchen.
All are controlled using Amazon Alexa.
So there is a possibility that an Amazon bug switched off everything in my kitchen.
I’ve checked all the firmwares and they are identical to similar devices in my home which did not suffer this almost-extremely-expensive outage.
Can you tell me whether timer events are stored on-device? In other words, if I set my switches to turn on as a failsafe, will they do so at the requested time, irrespective of internet connectivity?

Do you mean the schedule or the "Default State" feature? Schedule takes effect even when internet or WiFi is down unless there is a power outage and the smart plug fails to reconnect to the internet to sync device time.
The default state feature applies to situations where there is a power outage.

@Wayne-TP Well, the default state feature has just failed me and we haven't figured out why, so I'd like to add several "on" timers each day such that I stand the best chance of not losing the contents of my freezer if the same thing happens again!
So can you confirm that the devices must have seen the internet since powering up for timed events to work? I think that's what you're saying. It's a shame there's not some kind of onboard persistent clock that syncs with the internet for this scenario.
Incidentally I fully appreciate that using a P110 on a critical device like a freezer which must have 100% uptime is not the correct application for that device. :) That doesn't make it any less interesting that three of these devices switched themselves off unexpectedly for the first time (after dozens of months of being on) just a few days ago.

Time-related features doesn't work if the smart plug fails to reconnect to the internet after a power outage. The smart plug has an internal clock but it also stops timing when the power is cut. Since it cannot determine how long the power has been off, when the smart plug is powered back on, the time-related functions will not work properly unless the time is recalibrated.
