Model: Tapo C510W
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.2

Ive got a very frustrating problem with my Tapo C510W.

Recently I bought 5x C510W cameras but one is making problem with the SD card.

Adding SD card and formatting the first time work ok however after some time (eg. next day) live feed works as normal but I cannot play back the recordings. It just keeps showing the progress circle but no recording loads in. When I tried to reformat with the camera then it goes up to 5% and formatting process stucks. I can't do a thing. Then app close, restart, cameara restart and there is no longer SD card recognized in the cam. SD card is a genuine brand new Kingston 128GB class 10. I thought the card is faulty. Then I tried one of my other 64GB SD card and the camera did exactly the thing. First initial fromatting worked ok but soon after playbacks are not available. Now I seem to have 2 faulty cards thanks to the new Tapo C510W. I don't want to try a third one.

I tried to have a look at the SD card and reformat it on Windows 10 with Rufus.

Error:

[0xC003045D] The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Then I tried to have a look at it with DISKPART. Result:

DISKPART> attributes disk
Current Read-only State : Yes
Read-only  : No
Boot Disk  : No
Pagefile Disk  : No
Hibernation File Disk  : No
Crashdump Disk  : No
Clustered Disk  : No

Write protected

Im simply unable to format it with anything.

The issue has had nothing to do with counterfeit SD card. My SD cards have been veryfied and they have been all genuine but it seems like I found the issue.
Ive got 2 bunch of cameras installed on 2 different property.

3 cameras on 1 building and 2 cameras on the other.
Slowly all SD cards became faulty after some time on the building that had 3 cameras installed. On the other building the other 2 cameras and the SD cards have been working just fine. One common thing was on the first building that had 3 cameras and all SD cards failed.... the power supply.
I did not use the TAPO plug-in PSU came with the cameras but instead we wired all camera into 1x 12V PSU. I measured the voltage at all 3 cameras and the voltage was just about 11.6V. This was causing me also picture flickering and going the screen green. I purchased another 12V 6A PSU and connected it, measured it again and gave 12.15V at the cameras. Then I bought the cheapest Chinese no-name SD cards I could find on Aliexpress and since the PSU was changed all SD cards work... before PSU change the quality Kingstone SD card failed in 1 day.
I just came back to report this and help others as there are tons of comments, complaints about this issue online but not 1 member even mentioned that the PSU might be faulty... As there are plently of people complain about the same SD card problem I can imagine that power supplies packed with the TAPO cameras can fail too causing this SD card issue... It would also be better if the support brings this up instead of blaming it on the card. Could have saved me time and money... I hope this post helps others.

Hi,
1. What's the model number of the SD card with 64GB capacity?

2. Please refer to the instructions below to test the SD card with the H2testw tool and send me pictures of the test results.
How to Verify Fake Micro SD Cards?

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

64GB SD card is currently in the camera.
I tried to test the 128GB with H2TestW tool. It did not work. As soon as I browse the SD card the program wants to format it which cannot be. This is the very reason I opened this thread. So because H2TestW tool cannot format it either I throws an error "Error accessing target."

  @KnightWhoSaysNi

Hi,
The camera's handling of SD cards is essentially the same as other devices' handling of SD cards, such as reading and writing SD cards on a PC. The SD card will also only be formatted, written, and read when working with the camera. The difference from other usage scenarios may be that the SD card is read and written more frequently when used in the camera, so we recommend using an endurance SD card on the camera.

For the reported case, please confirm:
1. Please provide the purchase links for the two SD cards to check for more information about the SD card.
2. Has the 64GB SD card been used on other cameras(Tapo C510W)? If so, does it work fine?
3. Have you used the Tapo C510W outdoors? If yes, please check if the SD card slot is dry. If the SD card slot is flooded for some reason, such as the SD card cover does not close properly, it may cause the SD card to not work.

Best Regards
