The anti-theft alarm of the Tapo D230 is a security feature designed to deter theft. When enabled, if someone attempts to remove the doorbell from its mounted position, the doorbell will emit an alarm sound.

Normally, the alarm sounds only when the doorbell is removed. However, if the installation is not done correctly, it can cause the alarm to continuously go off, preventing it from functioning as intended. This article will explain common installation issues so you can use the product more effectively.

The anti-theft button is located on the back of the doorbell. Attaching the doorbell to the mount bracket presses down the anti-theft button, completing the hardware preparation. One more step, by enabling the anti-theft feature on the Tapo App, your Tapo doorbell's anti-theft mode is now online!

As the bracket is mounted on the wall (via 3M glue or screws), if someone forcibly removes the doorbell, it will detach from the bracket. The release of the anti-theft button will trigger an alarm, and simultaneously, a notification will be sent to your phone alerting you to the attempted theft.

Therefore, the anti-theft button must be properly pressed down with no gaps between the doorbell and the bracket to detect removal accurately. If the doorbell is not installed correctly, such as when the anti-theft button remains in the released position, it will cause the doorbell to continuously sound the alarm.

Common Situations of False Anti-theft Alarms

1. The Bottom Buckle of the Doorbell is Not Installed Properly

As shown in the picture, if the doorbell is not installed according to the instructions by sliding it from bottom to top onto the bracket, the top of the doorbell may not be fully secured in place. This could create a gap at the top, preventing the anti-theft button from being securely pressed down, leading to false alarms.

To ensure correct installation, follow these steps:

   - Align the bottom buckle first, then press down the doorbell until you hear a click from the top buckle.

   - Pay attention to the upward arrow on the back panel, and do not install the back panel upside down.

2. The Mounting Wedge is Installed Incorrectly

To adjust the viewing angle of the doorbell, there is a 15° mounting wedge included in the package. Place the back panel above the wedge, then use screws to affix the wedge and back panel over the anchors.

The wedge has two sides: a grid-side and a smooth side. Ensure the grid-side of the wedge is attached to the bracket.
