Tapo C225 camera cannot pair to Wifi 6 router
I bought a Tapo C225 V2.EU (version) camera and am trying to pair it with a router on a 2.4 bandwidth. Let me describe what I followed:
1) I noticed that my wifi had the band steering mode on. Thus I turned it off and created two different MAIN networks (2.4 and 5). Each network has a separate SSID and a password.
2) After disabling the band steering mode, I assured both networks had WPA/WPA2-personal security.
3) Then I followed the instructions of the Tapo APP (Android) and everything worked as expected, except the last part of PAIRING the device with the router.
- Bluetooth pair -> DONE
- Wifi identification (2.4) -> DONE
- Wifi connection (with voice instructions) -> DONE
- Device PAIR -> Failed.
While searching online I also found a different way to select the Tap_XXX_XXX network from my wifi settings. Even though I found the network while connecting, I noticed that the network was in wifi 4 (version) while my router is wifi 6 and also the network SSID Tapo_XXX_XXX did not broadcast connectivity.
Thus, I tried the whole process again with my mobile HOTSPOT. I turned my mobile device to a hotspot and followed the app instructions. Everything worked as expected. But this is not my ideal scenario because I want a wifi connectivity, not a mobile hotspot.
My Wifi settings have the following configuration:
* Mac address filtering is disabled
* Band steering is off
* Network channel set to [1,6,11] -> mine is set to 6
* Network Encryption is set to WPA or WPA2 (NOT WPA3)
* Client isolation is disabled
* Never configured port blocking
* Network password has been checked multiple times.
Thanks a lot for any help/advice in advance.
Kind regards,
Nikos S.

Hello there Nikos. I ve bought the same ip camera tapo c225 and I have the exact same problem as you. I have changed the IP to 0 instead of 1 and I managed to connect the camera through the app but after 2 minutes it disconnects and I have to start all over again with the same results every time. Did you manage to fix yours?

Hi, may i know what router are you using? How do you tell the camera has been disconnected? Its LED turns red/orange? Or did you notice it disappear from the router's client list?

Hello Tolarade,
Changing the router default DHCP settings should do the trick. Did you manually add your camera's static IP? I am not sure how to find the static IP of a TAPO camera, because in my case the Tech support shared it with me. Once you manually add your camera's static IP you shouldn't experience disconnections. In your case I would test the following:
1. Replicate the issue with mobile hotspot. If you still experience disconnections maybe has to do with the camera (then contact Tech support).
2. Disconnections might occur because of an unstable WiFi connection or maybe you don't connect to WiFi 2.4G, the broadcast channel is not static, etc
3. When you change the router default IP from 1 to 0 (i.e. 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1) you should next restart the router. After restart if you connect your laptop/desktop it must have a different IP address than before. For example every time you connect a new device to the WIFi network from a previous IP like 192.168.1.150 the device should now have 192.168.0.150 (notice the change from 1 to 0).
Could you please verify the above three points and share your feedback?
I would also advice you to contact technical support through a ticket. They are very helpful.
Disclaimer: I want to clarify to the rest of the fellows reading the thread. My issue had to do with my router and not any defect of the camera. My router had some strict configurations from the router provider (i.e. the default IP to 192.168.1.1). And since I wasn't an expert in networking and WiFI connections I came in contact with the pros from the tech support of TP-Link. That's why it took me over 1 month to investigate and resolve my issue.

Hello Wayne.
I am using speedport plus 2, same as nikos from the earlier post. As for the disconnections, I set up the camera through the app after I have changed ip to 192.168.0.1 , and I mange to get live view from the app. After 1-2 minutes though the live feed freezes and tries to reconnect to the wifi and the led start blinking red slowly. Then i have to unplug the camera as it fails to reconnect and plug it up again but the same thing is happening again and again

Hello nikos and thanks for your reply. I have the same router sercom speedport plus 2 by cosmote as I too leave in Greece. I added manually the Ip of the camera after changing the ip form 1.1 to 0.1 and also set a static dhcp for it. After that the camera is pairing and I can use the app to watch the live feed but it freezes after 1-2 minutes and I have to unplug the camera. This happens every time without any workaround. As for the other things you mentioned the router is almost next to the camera and I have a 30-40 rssi signal and I also tried using my mobile Hotspot and the camera worked flawlessly. I conclude that the problem is the communication between tapo and the router.

Hello,
I just bought two C225 cameras and got the same exact issue.
Router: Cosmote Speedport Plus 2
Camera: Tapo C225 v2.2 with firmware 1.0.7 build 231108 Rel 82981n
The DHCP ip range in my router was set to 192.168.1.xxx and the speaker would announce "Connected to wifi" but later on the Tapo app failed in the "pairing" step.
After reading this thread, I switched the ip range in my router to 192.168.0.xxx. Now the camera passes the pairing step successfully and I can see the video stream in the Tapo app. However, after a couple of minutes the stream freezes and connection/control to the camera from the app is completely lost. I guess that this has something to do with the static ip address assignment.
I tried assigning a fixed ip in the dhcp settings of the router but this didn't help (either way, this would not be a static ip address - from camera point of view this is still a dhcp assigned address).
Do you have any steps regarding assignment of static address to the camera?
btw, I also found this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-Bftxl7H5w
However, the options described in the video are not available in the app....

Hello,
For my case I just assigned the static IP 192.168.0.10 (after changing and restarting router's DHCP settings to 192.168.0.1). However, the static IP I assigned was suggested by Tapo Tech Support. I didn't find it on my own. I guess each camera has its own static IP otherwise you can try the one I posted and let us know. However, I strongly advise you to contact the technical support. They know the camera better than me :)
I would like also to add that I have a different firmware of the app because the latest production firmware does not resolve our issue. The tech Support shared with me a newer development version 1.0.7 Build 240403 Rel. 37963n. They will publish this version on their next release. You may contact the tech support and ask them to share this firmware version with you and test if it resolves your problem.
Kind regards,
Nikos Spanos

Can you send me the Mac address of your Tapo C225 via private message? We have a beta firmware that may help with this issue, give it a try!
