Tapo C500, C310 ... micro SD card issues
Hello eveyone,
first of all I would like to say, Tapo series cameras, despite being used as amature products, they are very well build, the overall product look and feel of used materials is very good, nice done TP Link.
I purchsed, 5 pieces of the model C500, and two C310, wireless cameras for my client.
I used 64GB Kingston, microSD cards, and after 5 days after installation the client stated to complain, that the cameras stopped recording.
I must mention, I loaded the latest firmware availble. Reinserted and formated the cards as sugested by TP- Link support.
After couple of days the same thing hapens!
After some research on the Internet, I found out, that people are complaining about the same issue!
I ended up, trying different type of microSD cards like Patriot and Intenso. And same thing is still happening. Some Cameras, start recording after reinserting microSD cards, some need reformating microSD cards. I tested the cards with hw2test software, again as suggested by TP-Link, and all of them show real capacity.
So, for all of you who are thinking of buying Tapo cameras DONT, except if you are willing to pay for the Cloud Storage offered by TP Link. Which let me think, maybe this issue is created on purpouse, so people will give up trying to setup their recordings on microSD cards, and just go for the Cloud storage!
My recomendation, buy CCTV products from companies to whome CCTV is core bussiness.
If you need network products, go for TP-Link.
As I can tell, this issue is old, I found forum threads from year 2020! So this is an old complain, I think TP Link was able to solve this if they were willing to do so, but...
At end I ended up, buying some no name wifi cameras which were much cheaper than Tapo, used the avalible microSD cards, and everythinh is working fine, no complains.

@Summer_S Hi, do you use the same account to access from multiple devices (smartphones)?
I apologize for the bad English...

@AlBaVoz Not sure why you need this information... Usually, I access my camera via the Tapo app from the same phone.

I just upgraded my C500 to the latest 1.14 firmware and suddenly I am experiencing the same issues. The SD card suddenly stopped working, and when I reformat it I get an error message stating that the microSD card has an abnormal size.
The card is a "Kingston Canvas Select Plus microSD 128GB" bought from a very reputable store. Both camera and card are less than 3 months old.

Hi,
You can manage the Tapo camera from different phones if you log in to the Tapo app with the account the camera is bound to. (Note: a camera can only bind to one TP-Link account.)

I have exactly the same issue with my C500's, new 1.14 firmware and the "Kingston Canvas Select Plus Micro SD XC I V10 128GB" which were bought due to being on the TP-Link recommended list.
Can someone from TP-Link please respond as I (and I guess manner others) are spending many hours trying many things to solve this but to no avail !
Many thanks,
Alex.

@dmerdan Well at least I know that I'm not the only one! I spent $45 on a new sd card - tapo will not recognize the card. This is the second sd card I've purchased. So frustrating! I've just sent an email to tapo - I'll put a message if they can fix it

@dmerdan same issue over here. I'll email support but if anyone has found a solution (a card that actually works) I'd appreciate the tip.

@dmerdan Buen día.
¿Alguna solución al respecto? Esto es una falla de la Tapo c500, le pasa a todos y con cualquier tarjeta(sea recomendada da por TPlink o no)
Necesitamos una solución integral al respecto, ya que se considera una falla de fábrica.
