Controller's URL change on adopted router
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to change, saved by the device, URL address to controller.
My ER605 is in remote location, already adopted, configured to reach out to the main controller via DDNS. I will change the service provider (ddns) therefore I need to provide new URL addres to the router.
I saw the post:
https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/617096
Unfortunately, that CLI command is not supported by ER605 (I've tried).
There is no proper setting for that on device config page (in controller).
This is remote location so I can't use Omada Discovery Utility (not sure if that would work anyway).
What's the proper way to address such issue?
Cheers

your only option is to use the discovery utility from a pc on the network at the remote location. you can use option 138 but it only supports ip address and does not work on the router itself,
you can also set Device Management Hostname/IP on the controller in global settings, but not all devices support this feature either. routers do not support it.
so my best advice is, borrow a pc at the remote location, connect with teamviewer or something and install omada discovery utility and change that way. you need java 8 installed on the pc to make the program work. the change itself takes 5 minutes.

I probably should have mentioned it but If the router is connected to a controller, you will not see anything in Omada Tool. It is only when the router cannot connect to the controller that you will see it.

Hi @RaRu
Thanks for posting in our business forum.
Three ways to adopt the device over the network.
DHCP Option 138, and both VPN and inform URL with the Discovery Utility.
All of them have a FAQ on the step-by-step guidance.

I have a problem with Discovery Tool. Tried on two computers, Firewall disabled, connected to network via WiFi as well as cable, Java 1.8_431 as well as 1.8_333.
The tool doesn't show any results. Always empty. In app log file I can only see:
2024-12-17 20:11:53.474 WARN 38856 --- [main] c.t.utility.common.omadac.OmadacType : Failed to load omada.properties

Only FAQ I have found about that doesn't say anything more than How To Install:
https://www.tp-link.com/pl/support/faq/2533/
I have found similar topic but no solution:

Any idea how to fix that?

If you cannot install the software, that's a problem with your system or the Java environment.
There is no fix but use the recommended software and install the proper Java kit/version.
This is not something we can fix but you need to debug the environment. I have no issue with my Win10 Pro, 64-bit.
Java environment.
