Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.2.1

I am attempting to setup up a shared drive on a server that is sitting on a private IP address of my local network.  I need to be able to map this drive to my Windows 10 laptop that I use from another location.  I have 1 to 1 NAT enabled with a successful remote connection to the server using a static WAN IP address.  I have created the shared drive using the guidelines for the server.  I can not confirm the shared drive due to obtaining the message from Windows Diagnostics "file and print sharing resource (111.222.333.444) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts."  I am posting this question here in an attempt to see if anyone can confirm that the SMB protocol for Windows ports to the outside world via 1 to 1 NAT on the ER605 router natively or is there other configuration mechanisms I have to invoke?

You can not access fileshare whitout vpn. Port 445 is blocked by default on internet.

Hi @ThisEngineer

As recommended above, it is wise to set up VPN instead.

Port forwarding can simply resolve this but there is a potential danger to expose your local file server to the Internet. Even if you can set up the username and password for the SMB service on Windows but it still poses a danger to your network if someone cracks your credentials by any means.

VPN can provide a secure way to get access to your local network. It's way safer than port forwarding.
