Hi,

For the EAP 615-wall, powered and thus with an ethernet backhaul, can I still use another EAP (eg, 610) to connect it wirelessly (Mesh) with the EAP-615?

Thanks.

I looked it up, and none of the 'Wall' APs support meshing...which is a HUGE shame in my books.  (p.15 of 42 if you care)

The latter, and yes, very disappointing to me too.  None of the 'wall' units have the feature...I have a 235-Wall I'd love to use as the uplink node, but no.

@d0ugmac1 , @Tedd404 Thanks for the replies.

But does that mean the 615 just cannot be connected as mesh?

If the 615 is wired, can we still link other mesh APs to it wirelessly or will that still not be possible? (that will be a huge dissapointment...).

@d0ugmac1

I have a place where I have only 1 ethernet cable coming to the room and where I will need to connect 1 AP (#1) and 1 wired client. And eventually (not needed now, but might be needed in the future) connect wirelessly another AP (#2) in the downstream. So #1 will be the uplink of #2.

I was hoping to use the 615-wall as the AP#1 in order to use the extra ethernet ports it provides... but if it can't mesh with other APs, it will not work for me in the future.

I guess solution is to use the EAP-610 and just a dummy L2-switch with PoE passthrough (if that even exists...)?
Any suggestion of a cheap one? (no need for many ports)

Or will I be forced to use an electric socket there? (either powering a L2-switch w/ PoE (just not passthrough) or via a PoE injector for that EAP).

Thanks again in advance!

  @AvidLearner

I would keep the 615-Wall.  Power it with a POE+ injector (Ubiquiti makes a very cheap and cheerful POE+ for C$15--when in stock).  You can the plug your wired device into one of the 3 LAN ports and if it's just a POE device, you can plug it into the POE passthrough port (and your POE+ injector will power both the AP and the wired device).  To me that's so much cleaner than multiple devices and power modules.

In the future, you can either run a cable from another LAN port on the 615, or worst case, use a WiFi repeater unit which is slaved to the 615.  It won't be managed as an AP, but your client activity will be tracked as though they are connected to the 615.

I'm sure you have more nuances to the future state...but I don't see any silver bullets preventing you from proceeding with the 615-Wall as it's a helluva unit (ignoring that it can't mesh of course).
