Questions regarding recording and accessing recordings remotely on C425 w/o a Tapo Care plan...

Model: Tapo C425
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I am considering purchasing one (or possibly three) Tapo C425 cameras, but I'm a little confused how the recording works if you do NOT have a Tapo Care plan (as this starts to get pricey with more than one camera).

So I had a few questions regarding recording WITHOUT a Tapo Care plan...

If you have an SD card installed into the Tapo C425, does it automatically record to the SD card if a motion event occurs or does SD card recording only occcur manually?

Is there a way to access the camera's SD card recordings remotely, or do you have to pull the card from the camera to view them?

Thanks!

Hey @brett_n,

Tapo Care is largely treated as a completely separate feature when it comes to recording.

With or without Tapo care, the SD card experience will be the same and shouldnt be a problem for what you are looking for.

With an SD Card installed to a C425, the camera would wake up whenever there is motion and record directly to the onboard SD Card. In the Tapo App, you can view all of the footage from the SD Card, without needing to remove the card (however you can do this if you want to bulk transfer)

The only limitation you will come across is that you cannot download the clips from the SD Card to your phone if you are away from home. Downloading clips directly from the cameras sd card requires you to be on the same network as the camera. If you need to store a clip on your phone while you are away, there is a way - however the quality would only be the quality that is being streamed to your phone.

Yesterday

  @Riley_S

New to the Tapo family. I am just looking for a little clarity on the auto recording with SD card. . . If I am not home, but get notification and want to view a recording (let's say from 2 hours prior) would I be able to through the app?

Thanks in advance.
