Unable to view recordings in app, Tapo D225
Unable to view recordings in app, Tapo D225
Hello I have a Tapo D225 and I have a SD card installed and set to continuous record, I have had it installed and has been working fine for 2 weeks, but yesterday 10/3 I noticed, I can still view live stream and get notifications but I can longer view recording via the app, when I try to go to recordings it just tells me "no recordings" if I use the left and right arrows on the date selections I can change the date and it will flash me the thumbnails of the event moments and then immediately go back to the "no recordings" message, I have pulled out the SD card to verify whether it actually recording and if I could watch what been recording and it is recording and I was able to browse through and watch the videos on the SD card.
I have tried deleting the app cache and turning the doorbell off and then back on and everything seems to work fine except being able to view recordings on the app.
Here are couple screenshots , the left is the screenshot where it flashes the events before then automatically going to the no recording message, I have also attached video of screen recording if want to see it.
Update 10/4/2024:
So after digging around and trying to find out more information I came across another thread here on the tp-link support forums, saying that they had this same issue and the cause of it wast the app saying SD card had reached capacity even though was set to loop recording, and deleting footage/formating the card solved the issue and they were able to view events again. So I put a new SD card in and I was able to view recording/events again in the app.
For my setup, I did have it set to loop recording and in the app it did list the card as full, so this appears to be an app issue rather than a hardware issue, as after I put in a new SD card I was able to view recordings/events in the app again, I then checked the other SD card on the computer and the loop recording was working as intended as I could open the files and watch the recorded footage.

So after a few weeks of it not doing it, it started up again but with added problem of it freezing up and not sending out alerts or being able to see the live feed. After tapping the refresh a bunch of times was able to get it working again but then couldn't view the recordings because of the "no recordings" message. So I emailed support again and the replied that they had a new firmware that has shown to fix the problem, so I followed their instructions and updated the firmware to version 1.1.16, and I was then able to see the recordings again without having to format the SD card. I don't see this firmware updates on the product page so it might be something you have to contact support about if you are also still having this problem.

@pf3net thanks for the update!
Wondering if you could share the step by step and links if that is applicable?or it has to be on a per case basis?
You're right no 1.1.16 available. I am at 1.1.14 so far

TP Link support pushed a 1.1.16 build onto my doorbell and it appears to be working well looping the full sd card and not freezing up.

I'm not sure if they have to tag your account/DB for the update, the email they responded to me said this
Tapo APP > Me > Firmware Update
When I checked there it did list the 1.1.16 as an available update.

I am having the exact same problem with my D225.
The SD card gets full, and instead of "Loop Recording" as set, it just stops recording.
Only solution is to re-format the SD card - but that loses anything that was recorded before.
My app says I am running 1.1.14
"Auto Update" is set to YES.
"Check for Update" returns "Firmware Up to Date"
(see screenshot)
So how do I get updated to 1.1.16, which apparently solves this problem?
Thanks!

I am having the same issue, model TD25 (best buy version), every since sd card is full, the door bell started acting weird. Slow or not responsing, not recording any event including cloud event. can not access any video using the app. I haven't tried looking at the SD card yet, will update later.
I even exchanged for a new unit but same issue present. This is likely a firmware issue.

Hi I followed the instructions and I sent customer support the query.
At one point they will ask for your Mac address.after doing so,next day I could download an update m16 at the end. I think it will solve the issue.
I haven't reached the end of the card to see if it loops but seems like it from other other people on the forum.
At least I got an update ..so it should be good
