  @TheFarmboy

As has been explained previously.  The original issue with in this post were back from 2019 and were related to two things.  One a cloud outage and 2 DNS settings.  If you are getting a local only issue we recommend first setting your router's DNS to a public DNS like OpenDNS or Google's servers, power cycling and seeing if the issue has been resolve.  If not please create a new thread detailing your concerns and what you have done to troubleshoot.  This thread after this response will officially be locked as it is old and outdate and misleads customers to thinking its a longstanding issue that was never resolved.

Open the Kasa app.  Tap on your device,  Tap on the settings button at the top right of the screen and move the slider for "enable remote control"  Once it is enabled you will be able to control the smart plug remotely and also link the Kasa account to your Alexa and control it with the Alexa Assistant.

That used to work in your old app, but in version 2.9.0 the option to choose to enable/disable "local only" is removed.

I have 11 smart plugs (HS100, HS105 and HS110's) and one of them shows as "local only" but there is no way to change this.

Please advise how this can be fixed. The device in question is a HS100 plug, firmware 1.2.5 and hardware release 1.0

Interestingly enough I have several other HS100 plugs (same hardware and firmware) who do not have this problem.

Olaf,

I actually was not aware of that. I know they made a lot of changes in the app recently but was not aware that the "remote control"  toggle was removed from most products.  I have reached out to our Smart Home team to get you answer.

You guys at TpLink need to get on top of this local only issue pronto.  I too am having problems with the HS105 plugs showing LOCAL ONLY WITH NO Alexa control.  Uninstalled Alexa and kasa along with removing and reinstalling affected plugs over and over again to no avail.  Please fix, otherwise I'm returning 25+ switches and plugs and spreading my displeasure to everyone I know.  Ya know, the negative word of mouth advertising thing. Already contacted customer service in the Philipines and although they were nice, their solution was to replace for $14.99 per plug.  I have a hard time believing two plugs and a switch are smoked in a day and if that's the case, better start making these things alot more robust. Also, thanks for the great offer of $14.99 for shipping and processing when  everyone and their brother can buy these things for cheaper than that all day long.  If these plugs are defective, TP Link needs to own up and replace at their expense.  Otherwise, the warranty isnt worth the paper its printed on.  Not only that, you need higher levels of tech help than people reading off a script.

I'm having the same issue with 1 of my devices. HS105

I have tried to reset device and set it up again. Once I set it up, it works for a few mins and then goes back to local only.

I'm going to return this device and my other ones if they can't get fixed.

Hi, I am having issues with local only with an HS105 as well. It controls 1/3 of my outdoor low voltage lights and the wife is not happy it’s not following its schedule and there appears to be no way to reset it.

I am having the same issue. If I unplug the smart plugs and plug it back in, it works. That toggle went off the app awhile ago. Please help, my plugs are hard to reach to keep unplugging.

I have the saem problem.   It says I need to do a firmware update and fails.  Then I try to turn on remote access but can not.   Local works just fine.

Is there any update from TP-Link on this?

One of my HS105 went to Local Only and can't get it available remotely.  Please promptly provide a way to resolve this.  Can you at least give an old version of the app to sideload?
