New Wi-Fi 7 Deco Feature – Channel Selection

We are excited to introduce the Channel Selection feature for Wi-Fi 7 Deco Mesh Systems. This new functionality, accessible through the Deco app, allows users to manually choose the Wi-Fi channel for each frequency band, providing greater control over network performance in high-interference environments.

The Deco BE85 and Deco BE63 are the first to receive this feature via their latest firmware updates, with more Wi-Fi 7 Deco models slated to receive it in the future.

Channel Selection Function Overview

Channel Selection lets Deco users select the optimal Wi-Fi channel on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This feature can benefit areas with multiple overlapping networks or interference from other electronic devices. By manually setting the channel, users may experience improved network stability and enhanced Wi-Fi performance.

To Use the Channel Selection Feature:

1. Open the Deco App

2. Go to Wi-Fi Settings

3. Select 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wireless Network

4. In the Advanced section, adjust the channel and channel width settings.

Benefits of Manual Channel Selection

Reduced Interference

Selecting a specific Wi-Fi channel can help avoid overlap with neighboring networks, particularly in densely populated areas.

Optimized Performance

By adjusting the channel and channel width, users can find the best configuration to support stable and fast connections.

Enhanced Control

Manual Channel Selection offers advanced users greater flexibility to fine-tune their Deco network for improved reliability.

With the addition of the channel selection function, Deco users with supported models can now take greater control of their wireless environment, potentially enhancing their Wi-Fi experience by reducing interference and optimizing connectivity.

Try out the Channel Selection feature and see how small adjustments can make a big difference in your network’s reliability and speed.

Update Your Deco

@Ryan: Hi, do you think this feature will be rolled out for other models, such as Deco X55 pro. Thanks

@Ryan If the main Deco allows manually selecting the channel, would that selection be propagated to the satellite Decos, even if the satellites do not allow that selection (hardware or firmware not offering that capability)?

Yes, if the main Deco's firmware supports this feature, and if Channel Selection is implemented by the user, the satellite Deco node(s) will follow the Channel Selection of the main Deco.

@Ryan Thank you for the information! Have you ever seen that tested in any cases? I remember when I mixed some Deco models, and if one of the Decos hadn’t been updated with certain features, for example, the IoT network, while the main Deco supported that feature, the entire feature would no longer be displayed after adding the model that didn’t support it yet. By the way, do you have any info regarding this channel selection for other model like X55 pro? Thanks

  @Espress0-0

Definitely a valid concern, but I'm happy to report that mixing Deco models shouldn't cause any issues with the feature - as long as the main Deco supports it.

The IoT network requires all nodes in the network to support the feature because it involves the creation, broadcast, and management of a specialized Wi-Fi network for IoT devices. However, changing the channel is something the Main Decos have always done in all Deco networks - it was just done automatically. This new feature just introduces the ability for users of supported Deco models to take manual control of what was previously done automatically.

As for the Deco X55, unfortunately I don't really have any information I can provide on which specific models are next in line to receive the update. That said, I'll be happy to let our Deco development team know about your interest in the feature on the Deco X55.

@Ryan I have 3 BE85 and 1 BE 63 deco units with BE85 covering the main house and be63 covering my pool house all wired via Ethernet. And I am mixing the decos and I can confirm the feature is available even if you mix decos.

@jake26 The thing is we were concerned if mixing Deco models without the Channel Selection feature with model with that feature. Both Deco 85 and 63 that you have there both support Channel Selection. They are just too expensive and not needed for my current 1GBPS plan so I may wait till mine supported.
