Been running, with great success, the Archer AX6000 router for 2 years now. Upgraded my home network to 2.5 GbE so I purchased the BE9300 (Archer BE550). This new router has 1 - 2.5 GbE WAN port and 4 - 2.5GbE LAN ports. Exactly what I needed. The Wi-fi radios / antennas on the AX6000 provided excellent coverage throughout my house. The Wi-fi radios / built in antennas in the BE9300 don't give me the same coverage as the AX6000 did.

 

What I would like to do is turn off the radios in the BE9300 and use it for my wired LAN and connect the AX6000 to the BE9300 and use the AX6000 for the Wi-fi. I would like the BE9300 to be the DHCP server for both the wired and Wi-fi connections. (Or any variations that allow the BE9300 to be the primary router and the AX6000 to be the dominent Wi-fi radio.)

 

I've read so moany guides and watched so many videos that just don't seem to get me there. WDS Bridging? Setting one router to Access Point? I've set the AX6000 as an Access Point and when I do it seems to be unaccessible, I'm usually pretty good at this stuff but this one, so far, is beyond my comprehension.

 

I would appreciate any guidance anyone can offer me on this. A step by step guide with the appropraite settings for each router would be fantastic.

Here's what I ended up doing. I set up the BE9300 (Archer BE550) as the primary router. DHCP is on and I started the ip address range at 192.168.1.13. This gives me 11 addresses, 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.12, for hard wired LAN equipment that I can go in and manually assign addresses to.. I then turned the 2.4 and 5.0 wi-fi radios off.

 

On the Archer AX6000 I set it up as a standard router and connected it to the BE9300 via LAN ports. LAN port on the BE9300 to LAN port on the AX6000. (In the BE9300 I reserved the address 192.168.1.12 for the AX6000). I turned OFF the DHCP server on the AX6000. The 2.4 and 5.0 wi-fi radios are turned on and configured in the AX6000. So all the wi-fi devices are connecting to the wi-fi radios in the AX6000 and they are getting their ip addresses assigned from the BE9300.

 

I did not enable WDS Bridging and I did not set the AX6000 to Access Point mode.

 

I now have excellent 5.0Ghz wi-fi coverage throughout my house and I'm more than happy. Although all of this could have been avoided if the 5.0 Ghz radio on the BE9300 had the same excellent coverage as the AX6000. Sadly it does not.
