Did you connect the main Deco of the secondary mesh on an Ethernet port of a Deco on the main network?

No. I haven't.

The distance is longer than i have an ethernet cable.

and that would put it directly on the network that i wish to route thru the NVR to keep the network traffic from the video network ( both wired and wifi).

 

Internet -> W2400 -> NVR -> S4 ->  Cameras

They are a different /24 subnet from the w2400 which has a numer of wifi devices of its own!

 

normally i would just set the router ( 2400 network) to forward packets to the NVR. And the NVR would forward them on.

 

Packets reach the w2400 network, but it doesn't reply at least on the network that sent packets from the Camera /24 subnet..

Is the W2400 Deco configured as Router or Access Point?

Is the S4 Deco configured as Router or Access Point?

Does the S4 Deco obtain a WAN IP address from the W2400 Deco?

IIRC the w2400 is a router. serving DHCP 192.168.X.x.

 

and the S4 is an access point. served IPs on 192.168.Y.x

 

Or the other way around?

 

everything gets IPs.
The W2400 has an external IP, as set by the provider.

the S4s have IPs, as set by the NVR.

 

At the NVR i can reach everything on the internet.

 

in the w2400 i can't reach the S4 network. Packets for that Class C go to the W2400 main Deco, which is unaware of the S4 network.

 

On the S4 network i can reach _some_ machines on the W2400 network. ( onth those which know how to route the 192.168.Y.x packets to the NVR.

 

I will check your Q to see if there is anything i missed.

S4s get IPs, but from the NVR, not the W2400.

The NVR should act as a router, obtaining a WAN IP address (192.168.X.x) from the W4200 Deco, and doing address translation between that adress and the addresses (192.168.Y.x) on its LAN side.

 

I wonder if the NVR is doing that correctly.

 

Your local IP addresses (192.168.) are meaningless outside of your network, there is no reason to hide those addresses.

 

I assume you had a previous setup working well.  Do you mind describing it?

Please examine the setup of each Deco network, to determine the operation mode of each network.

W2400 is a router So the S4 is an AP . Both checked with the app.

I hope to have the NVR to not do NAT. This makes the setup of each camera, for live view, more complex. And different for each camera! The user network ( 192.168.X.x network) should be able to go directly to the .Y network. Both networks will be fairly busy. Camera traffic on one and normal household network on the other. Otherwise i would have just used one extended network, as i have with he w2400 network. there are switches on one, or 2, of the w2400 Decos

well the 2 networks were at different locations. The one at my old place of business (camera network). The other at my home. the X network at the office, one (internal network). the Y network at home. each routed through its own Deco network to the internet, directly.
