Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.4 Build 20230220 Rel. 71494

Not sure how to determine hardware version. On Box it says V1.6. Logged into the router and in system it says V1.2

OK, here's the problem. I have a home network with 3 Dell desktops, a network printer, and 2 Roku boxes for my TV.

I recently replaced a very old desktop (with Vista OS) with a new Dell Inspiron with W11.

But my main business Dell is running W8.1. I'll slowly port over stuff to the new Dell.

The old Dell has a local printer attached with a USB cable. My other not new Dell also has a local printer.

The new Dell with W11 seems to work with my AX1500. That is, it has  no trouble going to web sites and it sees my network printer. But, it can't see the other 2 Dells over the network.

For both of the other 2 Dells which both have local printers- I went into network sharing and indicated I want to share those local printers without use of passwords.

On the newest Dell, it has no trouble seeing and installing the one network printer but it can't seem to see the other Dells to install their local printers.

Well, after trying all the methods to install the local printers- I did get to the point that- I think anyway- that it sees my main PC- at least it sees its name which is HOTROD. When I ask the newest Dell to open up HOTROD to see what's on it to share the printer- it can't do it. It's possible it really can't see it at all- only remembering that at one  point I entered that computer's name when trying the "manual" method. When I keep trying with the manual method- at some point it wants me to enter the full name of the older Dell and the name of the printer- then when I do that, it asks for my credentials. After a long effort to figure out the credentials and I tried again, it struggled and struggled and struggled and gave up. I think the newest Dell simply isn't see my main Dell nor my 3rd Dell.

This problem is probably a W11 problem not a router problem. But, I'm not an IT specialist. I have been using PCs since the '80s and in the past, when I installed a new PC or new OS- I never had this problem- I was always able to "find" and print to a local printer on one of the networked PCs.

I just logged into the router and see nothing in there that might lock out such access- though I might have missed something.

This shouldn't be so complicated. Or maybe it's just that I'm now a septuagenarian and getting slightly demented!

So, should I forget about the router as a source of the problem and focus on W11?

What if? You plugged the printer usb into the router, if it has usb, or dobyou have an old usb hub laying around? Maybe you can plug all printers into the usb hub and try locating the printers that way. Just a thought. All have internet/intranet access to the router, maybe they can share the usb port on the router... ?...

  @ITConstruction

Hello, thanks for your suggestion- but this router, the AX1500 doesn't have a USB port, unless it's invisible. :)

I've discovered that W11 has a lot of network issues- having to do with how you log in, etc. which are just too much for me to deal with. I used to be pretty good at this stuff. I've had 8-9 PCs going back into the '80s and did all the common stuff like add RAM, drives, etc. But since I don't do this "nerd work" hardly ever anymore- I've lost my touch and I fear tinkering with the system or I might mess it up.  So, all 3 PCs do have connectivity- they can access web sites and do email, no problemo- they just can't see each other to share files and printers. As I noted I do have a high end color printer set up as a network printer though it's expensive to use - due to cost of ink- I use it mostly as a copy machine. My wife has a Samsung laser printer hooked to her PC via USB cable- one that I was hoping to share over the net. I recall buying it dirt cheap a few years ago. So, I thought maybe I'll just buy another one just like it. Started looking online and see that they now cost $600-700+. I'm shocked. I swear I bought it for something like $40! How could the price go up like that? Anyway, looking in the manual for it- I was surprised to find out it's got an Ethernet outlet. All this time I assumed it was only a local printer useable with a USB cable. So, now once I buy a new Ethernet cable I can connect it to my router or my switch (connected to the router of course) and use it as a network printer. I think this will work- so I won't need to buy a new printer for the newest Dell. Last time I order a cartridge for the Samsung laser printer, the after market ink company sent me 4 instead of one cartridge so I'll have ink for years.

Anyway, that's my story- really not about the router. It's clearly a W11 problem- which if I was 10 years younger I'd struggle with but looks like I'll have a work around and move on.

Meanwhile, I like my AX1500 router. I could have gotten a higher end one but I don't need a more powerful one. It replaced an ancient Belkin- that was probably 15 years old. I still don't understand why it has 4 antennae but I don't need to know. I'm fascinated with all this computer tech- but in the past year I'm no focused on other issues so don't have time to stay up on it.
