Here is what I'm thinking:

I need to improve my WiFi on the main floor. i have a old 10/100 AP point there now. I have a Archer C7 router in the basement(has to be in the basement,all wiring is there.). Rather than get a better AP I was thinking to get a Archer A8 and use it as an AP and that way I'll have it as a backup in case something happens to my old router. I don't use the WiFi at all in the basement thats why I was not going to switch the A8 for the C7 in the basement and use the C7 as an AP.I thought the A8 might give better WiFi performance than the C7. I this feasible or am I thinking all wrong?

@doublebonus

Thanks for reaching out to us. Appreciate your support to our product.

Your idea has no problem. You can just leave Archer C7 as main in basement and set Archer A8 as access point to extend Wi-Fi.
