Hi I have smart connect enabled on my ax11000 and I like how it juggles the devices according to make your router run the best. However, I was wondering if I was able to permanately assign certain devices such as my phone to the 5ghz band so that it would never be on the 2.4 ghz band.

From the router end no. There may be a way on the client end? If you search for ways to force your device to prefer 5GHz that may be an alternative.
