Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.5

*NOTE* If your Deco app shows you are running 1.2.4 and it is up to date this post does not apply to you. The post below only pertains to users who updated to 1.2.5 through the Deco app. Following the procedure below while you are on 1.2.4 may cause unintended problems.

We have received inquiries by customers of connection issues soon after updating to the latest release of the firmware for the Deco M5.

Please try the following to resolve the issue you may be experiencing.

Find the problematic Deco unit that may be causing the connection issue, it will be pulsating blue. Once you have it, hold the reset button for 15 seconds to default it, now connect that Deco unit to your modem, make sure the other Deco units are powered down. You should have the following layout:

Modem > problematic Deco

Now use the Deco app to set up that Deco unit, and begin the firmware update. If there is more than one unit pulsating, do the same procedure for each one.

If after you do a factory default on the Deco unit, and you do not see the default wireless network broadcasting from the Deco unit, you will need a PC or Mac to wired to the Deco unit to update the firmware.

Download the firmware that has the instructions and utility here: (available by contacting support)

Make sure you have the following setup:

Modem > problematic Deco > PC or Mac

Extract the zipped file, and follow the instructions for the OS you are using.

If you still are experiencing connection issues, please send an email to: ussupportteam@tp-link.com

All my Deco units have stable blue LED, yet still I have wireless issues after upgrading to 1.2.5 (devices disconnecting, not able to connect etc.). Is this beta firmware intended for me as well?

@betelgeuse The symptoms you have seem to indicate that, and if the issues you have happened right after upgrading, then it would be best to update each unit. If the issues you have were always happening then it would be best to get in touch with the support team as it is likely something else.

Doing the factory reset one by one will destroy all my settings (ie. parental groups, static reservations etc). Is that true or is the settings kept within the Deco app?

@betelgeuse When you disconnect the main Deco unit leave that one alone. So as you do the procedure, the main Deco will be disconnected, and you are not using the Deco app at all. So once the satallite units have been updated, you will plug the main Deco unit back, then add the satallite units, no configuraion would be lost.

My main Deco is showing the same erratic connection issues. So you're saying I have to factory reset and manually reprogram all 3 Decos? How about a roll-back to 1.2.4 instead? It seems pretty obvious something in 1.2.5 is broken.

I went through that nightmare and got the two "slave" units back rev'd to 1.2.4, now the question is the "Main Deco".  If I reset that one to Factory Defaults, am I going to lose all my configuration settings?  Numerous threads from these forums indicate I will.  Is there a way to Switch the main Deco unit, THEN wipe it?
