When I first downloaded the app to control my devices I was able to do everything without being connected to the house wifi on my phone. The latest update changed that and now I am not able to block devices that I dont want connected unless I connect to my home wifi. Any advice?

Here is a article that we have for reference about blocking connected clients: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-2300.html

As far as losing remote connectivity. Make sure that the TP-Link Cloud account is set up as that is what enables you to control the router. This article will show you how to make sure your router is set up: https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-1366.html.

WIthin the Tether app, open the side panel on the left and login with your TP-LInk Cloud ID. The router will be listed in the cloud section when you are not connected to the routers Wi-Fi.
