Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20240910 rel.37547(5553)

I just bought this because my old home router did not support WPA3 but am struggling to lock it down in a way that makes it more secure than my old router.

I have set up WPA3 Main WiFi for my computers.

My old printer will only connect over WPA2 AES so I put it on Guest network with WPA/WPA2 security and 'allow guests to see each other'.

Ok now I can ping the printer and print from the Guest network - so far so good.

But I cannot see the printer from the Main WiFi  network at all

I tried moving it to the IOT network but that appears to be wide open to Main so unacceptable.

Turning on 'Allow guests to access your local network'  would  mean that an attack of my lower security WPA Guest network would be able to see my computers - BAD!

The 1500 fw does not seem to  have any way to set up routing or firewall rules that I can see .

So, how do I ping ( & print) from Main WiFi to Guest WiFi? without compromising security.?

And if it is just not possible for this bare bones box, (which I can return to WM)  which model would I need to step up to ?

Or does the Archer line all share the same simple FW with only HW differences?

  @mrbillium

Can you connect the printer to the router via USB or Ethernet?

Many routers would have this issue. Appears you need a router or device that supports VLANs.

If you have smart connect on, you could turn it off splitting the two networks (5 and 2.4) providing it would be the only thing on the 2.4 network.

Also consider getting a new printer that supports WPA3.

  @ArcherC8

USB or Ethernet are not practical for my office ( unfortunately)  and I am not going to throw out a perfectly good printer

You would think that if  Main and Guest are logically separated AND there is an option to allow Guest -> Main then there would also be an option to allow Main -> Guest!

Unfortunalely my printer will only connect when offered WPA/WPA2 security on Guest so the Guest network now has lower security than my old  router's WPA2 AES

So if I keep the Archer I will have to change Wifi to Guest every time I want to print  and be sure to remember to change back to  Main after or risk being on an insecure  WPA network.

I may just return it and go back to my old Asus WPA2 router until I find something else

  @markcarls Is WPA3-Personal+WPA-2PSK[AES] not an available option for you?  Thats how I have my Archer BE800 set.
