need help to configure IP addresses for home network, thanks very much!
hi, I need help configuring the IP addresses for router/switch/WIF in my homenetwork. Really appreciate your expertise!
Current set up: modem --> router --> 24-port SG2424 managed switch --> computers/unmanaged switch/WIFI point. For clearity, please see the diagram below.
Here are the current configs of the router, the managed switch, and the WIFI point. I used red fonts for my questions.
- router
IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP server: ON
IP Pool start address: 192.168.1.10
IP Pool end address: 192.168.1.253
- 24-port SG2424 managed switch
IP Address Mode: Static IP. Should I choose DHCP instead ?
IP Address: 192.168.1.11. for the 4th octet, instead of 11, should I choose an address such that it is outside of the router's dynamic IP addresses range of 10 to 253, for example, 192.168.1.8 ?
- 8-port unmanaged switch
It's a plug-play switch, so I don't need (and I can't) change anything.
- WIFI point (an old router)
IP address 192.168.1.12. For the 4th octet, should I choose a number outside the router's dynamic range of 10~253?
Thanks very much!
