Actually very few TP-Link routers support Time Machine. We have two FAQs that talk about using this feature
https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1564/ and https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2729/
At the top you will see a link for this article applies to. click there to see what models support this feature.

@Carl So it's safe to assume if I don't see the Time Machine option under USB setting then I am unable to use this with my Time Machine?

Yeah If time machine is not in the settings the router does not support the feature.

@Carl Just for clarification - if a TPLINK router supports time machine (from your above list of hardware that supports it), does that mean that those routers then support exFAT and HFS file systems? Thank you.

I currently have an archer c7 which does not read an exFat drive. I'm not necessarily interested in using time machine, but I do want to access (read/write) files from a drive connected to the router on my Mac computers. I have ordered an ac2300 which I understand should do this since my c7 does not?

Many of our routers inculding older models like the Archer C7 did not support MacOS file extensions. The C2300 does support ExFat
