Slow network performance on AX50/AX3000
Hello, I just purchased a AX50/AX3000 router and am having a terrible time gettingt the LAN speeds to be good. My other router was a Netgear and I was able to confirm that my WAN/Internet speeds are 500/250 from my ISP. I am getting close to that on wireless when I am right near the router. However, with the AX50 I am only getting 60mbps down and 40mbps up. I've tried everything including mimicking my settings from the Netgear router. Could this be an issue with my devices (iPhone and Macbook Pro) not supporting AX?

@Carl I was experiencing the same problem - wireless speeds seemed to be throttled to 20-30 Mbps on Telus gigabit internet plan. Hardwired directly to the router, I was getting 400-500 Mbps. I removed the Tether app, did a factory reset and the problem seems to be resolved.

@Carl Looks like this problem is still widespread. It must be indirectly related to the Tether app because people are saying deleting the tether app and resetting the router is the only thing that fixes it.

This is probably the last tp-link product for me:( (ax50 with ax3000 wifi card from tplink)
a. tether is horrible, not only is it not free after one year, but it is required to enable QOS
b. QOS is needed in 2020 (especially covid) to reduce the impact of streaming to help you work from home (keep connection solid for RDP sessions and ping low for gaming)
To remove tether means you remove QOS, which is just wrong. Then after a year your going to charge me $60-70 for qos? hell no, I am done with Tplink instead. If I knew this before making our purchase , we would of never made the purchase.
c. the TPLINK ax3000 wifi card, guess what? i took it a part and its an ax200 intel chip, not anything different and its not a "3000" rate device, because again its an ax200 chip from intel.
d. the bufferbloat is attrocious even 1 foot from the router , connected on cable, 5.2ghz ax only, 2.4ghz ... no matter the distance.
e. when i wrote support specifiying these issues early in the year, they eventually closed my ticket and said no other users had these issues. then a few days later released an updated firmware that mentioned the issues i had, but i was never reached out to to help test firmware or anything. bad customer service.
bufferbloat = packet loss, = bad rdp for working remote, = high ping for gaming.
I am done with Tplink, this really stinks. I have helped people purchase over 100 products from tplink, I can no longer recommend them as a vendor. Cheap, but cheap crap.
Dear TPLINK if you care about retaining customers:
a. remove QOS from tether and restore it to the base function of the router
b. fix the bufferbloat issues
I could of used the $200 ($150 from router and $50 from nic) to buy a better quality brand device. Fix your crap tplink and stop telling customers everything is fine and there are 0 reports when there are dozens of reports on your forums, reddit, tech forums etc.
"DSL REPORTS SPEED TEST" shows how horrible the bufferbloat is on all channels/combinations of settings I have tried.
suggestion: fix qos and make it seperate from tether and remove the need of tether. QOS works like crap in tether, if you are streaming you can clearly see bufferbloat increasing on high priority devices that are ignoring qos.
If it helps others, Tether wiped my high priority client list after firmware update/tether updates.

@oroechimaru I 100% agree. Mine's likely going back.

@oroechimaru Tether is free. They don't charge anything for it, even after 1 year.

@oroechimaru You don't need the Tether app for QOS. Type your router's IP address in any browser on any device and you have access to all of the settings. 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 is all you need.

My tether says it is not free and only a few months left on ax50.
my ax50 would not allow qos except via tether. How are you all using qos without tether since it seems impossible on my ax50 . If you click qos on my router it forces you to tether and states its only possible via tether.
qos was not an option without tether
it does look like qos remains free at least

@JoelS Just to be clear. After deleting the tether app it's a full on restore to default settings or a reset?
thanks

@TheKrankster Full on restore to factory settings.

Thanks JoelS. I'll give the restore a try and see if that changes the speed.
