I gave up. I moved the kids chromebooks so they get a usable 5ghz signal. Tplink 2.4ghz just does not work with chrome os.

Thanks a lot for the info @fae. I looked at the logs and checked my WAN down alerts (they were on) I've never received a WAN down alert. Could this mean the problem is on the tplink cloud service?
