The camera only records video when the Tapo app is open and active on my phone
Saturday
Model: Tapo C410
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version: 1.0.3

The camera only records video when the Tapo app is open and active on my phone. If the app is closed, no recordings are made, even when motion is detected.

What I’ve already done:

1. The camera is running the latest firmware version.

2. An SD card is inserted, recognized by the camera, and formatted via the app.

3. A Tapo Care subscription is active, and cloud recording is enabled.

4. Motion detection recording is turned on in the app settings.

Despite all these steps, the camera doesn’t seem to record autonomously. Can you please advise what could be the issue and how to resolve it?

Thank you!

Hi,
Usually, the Tapo C410 will go into sleep mode when you don't watch it via the Tapo app and when it does not detect events. If the motion does not wake it up, it won't record the motion.

1. Please try to enable the Notification/Alarm feature on the Tapo C410, and then check if you can receive a motion-detected notification or if the camera will alarm when it detects a motion.

2. Please refer to the instructions below to use the Detection Range Test feature, ensure the motion occurs within the detection range of the camera so it can wake up the camera.
Detection Range Test: test the activity detection zone of the Tapo Battery Camera

Best Regards
