Model: KE100 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I've installed Tp-Link Kasa KE100 heating controls and a control hub. The valves are on a schedule, but sometimes I want to turn them off all day.

The problem is, when I turn them off in the app, they automatically come on again as soon as the schedule changes.

I feel like if the thermostat is set to OFF, it shouldn't just come on again without me telling it to.

Is there a way to change this behaviour, that doesn't involve going into the settings of every thermostat individually to turn off the smart control on each one, ecery time I want to turn the heating off?

Smart control, also known as the schedule feature, it is designed to control devices at based on preset rules, regardless of the device's current state. This is easier to understand with examples from smart plugs or bulbs. For instance, if you set a schedule to turn on the bulb at sunrise and off at sunset, the schedule will still be executed at those times, even if you manually turn the bulb on or off at other times during the day.

To stop KE100 from automatically operating according to the Smart Control settings, simply disable it. If you have multiple devices, you'll need to operate each one individually, as there is currently no option for one-click control of multiple KE100 smart controls.

@Wayne-TP  Hi Wayne, thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, I understand that it is desirable to have the smart control running so the device is in the right state at the right time.

The problem with the KE100 'Smart' control is that there is no separation of 'On/Off' State and 'Temperature'.

To use your analogy of the smart light bulbs - If they functioned the same way as the KE100 - you would turn off your light at the switch, and as soon as the schedule told it to change colour temperature, it would switch itself back on again.

You would be in a constant battle, switching all your lights off all the time. This would be nuts, obviously.

Why then are the smart thermostats programmed in this way? It makes no sense.

You already have this convenient feture in the app where I can create a group that contains all the thermostats in my house, and conveniently switch them all off with one click when I leave the house for a couple of days.

The problem is they wont STAY off. That's all I'm asking for - for them to stay off until I switch them back on again.

And thanks for the link to the feature request - I had already posted there

In fact, when you turn off the KE100 from the app, it enters frost protection mode (which is enabled by default) rather than fully shutting down. This mode maintains the temperature above a minimum of 5°C to prevent the pipes from freezing.

If you need to completely turn off the KE100, use the Sleep Mode - Fully Close function.

I think you're right and the Devs just didn't implement clear and logical operation modes.

Actually, there are four modes:

- sleep mode for warm season, fully open or fully closed

- OFF which is in fact anti-freeze, it should disable the schedule as you suggest but it doesn't

- ON (idle) when the measured temperature is higher than the target and valve is fully closed, Tapo app shows this status quite well

- ON (heating) when there's heat demand and valve is at least partially open

OFF should mean OFF until you change your mind or it gets dangerously cold. Schedule should be disabled then, but it doesn't. Also via Matter it is not reported accurately and ON (idle) is just ON regardless of the actual heating status.
