Model: Tapo L510E
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

I have a number of Tapo smart devices (Bulbs, Cameras, Plugs, Switches, Thermometer) which had been working flawlessly for a long time. In recent weeks, 3 L510E bulbs started to intermittently go offline then reconnect. This is not a WiFi network issue as other Tapo devices in the same room are OK. After some investigation I found that the one bulb (L510B) that was OK was a different Hardware Version. All 3 bulbs that had the issue were Hardware Version 1. I had some spare bulbs which were L510E, Hardware Version 2 so tried them. Problem fixed. The chances that 3 bulbs all developed then same issue at the same time is almost 0%, so believe that either a Firmware and/or App update caused it.

(To check your Hardware Version, go to the bulb in the Tapo App, select settings, then device info, and all is displayed).

Has anyone else seen this? Can TP-Link check and confirm what has happened and how they will fix as I have 3 unusable bulbs which is an expense I do not feel I should have.

  @Eyes_and_Ears

What's the firmware version of these three L510E? Please check if the light bulbs are online when the phone connects to the local wifi. Or do they show offline on the remote network only (e.g. cellular data)?

What router do you use?

How often does it happen? How does the connection restore? By reloading or restarting the App, or restarting router?

Hi Wayne-TP, thanks for your reply.

I have just reinstalled one of the failing L510E's. The bulb info is:

Model Tapo L510 Series

Hardware Version 1

Firmware Version 1.3.1 Build 20240630 Ref 64117

The problem seen when using Tapo App on both iPad and Android phone. Also seen when connecting via local wifi or cellular.

Router is Sky.

Wifi network includes access points (TP-Link) to ensure 100% coverage. There had been no changes to the wifi network so this configuration has been working flawlessly for a long time.

All software and hardware updated to latest levels.

Happens randomly when checking the App and see one or more of these bulbs has gone offline. I tried restarting App and deleting from App and re-adding but this does not always fix.

When a L510 goes offline I can just leave the app running and wait and it will reconnect itself and be online again. It can be offline for several minutes. Not sure of exact frequency as not monitoring the App constantly, but I will see the problem a couple of times a day.

I have also tried a L530E Hardware Verrsion 3 and that works 100%.

Hope that clarifies the situation. I am a IT professional so have tried to cover all the bases.

Any thoughts,

Cheers

  @Eyes_and_Ears

Please check whether the smart bulb disconnects from WiFi when it is found offline in the App, e.g. check router client list.
