Model: KL400L5
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.10

So, my strip light shows a steady red light when OFF, what I mean, is always ON on the Red light. The strip light works fine when I turn it back ON, I can set any color, effect, etc. but when I switch it back to OFF, it stays in a red light color. I tried factory reset several times, same behavior. I tried unplugging it and plugging back the strip to the adapter. Same status.

Any ideas? the first issue  after one and half year of operation

please advise, thanks... Silvio

For this issue, try to the following suggestions:

1. Test turning off the strip using the control button to see if the same problem exists

2. Make sure device's firmware and Tapo app are updated.  How to update firmware of Kasa smart devices

3. Check if there is a color deviation when the light strip is set to color mode (e.g. blue, red, yellow, green.).

4. Factory reset the light strip with the control button, then test it again by turning off the light strip with the control button.<No need to configure the light strip.>  How to Reset Kasa Light Strip

5. Change a different controller if you have one, for example, the controller from a working light strip.

If the problem exists, contact local TP-Link support for further assistance with the following information.

1. Detailed information about the case, the troubleshooting done (including the suggestions given above) and the corresponding results.

2. Model, hardware & firmware version, and SN number of the Kasa light strip.

3. A picture of the light strip when it is turned off. Preferably a video demonstrating the product problem.

4. What material is the light strip attached to the object? For example, wood cabinets, iron shelves, tile walls, etc.

When the light strip is set to a solid color, is there any deviation in color? Like lighter or darker?

Try to switch to a different controller for this light strip if you have a spare one. For example the one from a normal light strip.

Hi Wayne, the color is steady RED, with no deviation at all. The light is very bright. I don't have a spare controller. Is that something I can buy from TP link online? thanks for replying

How about when turning on the strip and adjusting it to another color, like green or blue, any deviation? Can you share some pictures here when it is on (in a different color) and off?

It's likely a hardware failure. You may try to contact the retailer or local TP-Link support to proceed with the warranty.

well, I have my second (new) smart led strip turned red, when off, today.

fun fact - I bought this newest one 1 year ago, day by day. and I'm pretty sure my old one turned red, when off, also in a year of using.

I'm starting to think it's some sort of marketing feature to make customers buy new devices.

ps: all devices have been updated/reseted/etc in tries to fix it, nothing worked.
