Model: Tapo C100
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.3.7

I am unable to view the RTSP stream from my purchased C100 camera (firmware 1.3.7). The camera works fine in the Tapo App. I have followed the guide at https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2680/.

Username / Passwords have been set in the Advanced Settings / Camera Account section.

I have confirmed that the camera has an IP on my local network and it responds to ping requests. I have also usded nmap to confirm that port 554 is open on the camera.

Using the format rtsp://username:password@192.168.0.10:554/stream2 in VLC from a computer on the same network gives the error "connection failed" and log says "Failed to setup RTSP session".

There is no SD card in the camera and I have not enabled any of the cloud offerings (i.e. Tapo Care).

The camera has been restartet several times, but the issue remains.

Any suggestions on how to get RTSP streaming working would be greatly appreciated.

With help from tp-link support I found out that my camera works fine when using iSpy.

That made me try with mplayer and ffplay instead of VLC.

Both of them were able to stream directly from my camera. - My issue turned out to be VLC not handling the camera.

Below is my VLC version information:

VLC media player 3.0.16 Vetinari (revision 3.0.13-8-g41878ff4f2)

VLC version 3.0.16 Vetinari (3.0.13-8-g41878ff4f2)

Compiled by buildd on lcy02-amd64-108.buildd (Mar 13 2022 08:00:10)

Compiler: gcc version 11.2.0 (Ubuntu 11.2.0-18ubuntu1)

  @JimmyDansbo

Hi,
Please help confirm the following information about your issue.
1.  Please describe your network diagram, such as the Internet--wireless router)))(((Tapo C100, etc.
Do you want to stream the camera via the RTSP when on the same network or on a different network?

2. How many devices are streaming the camera simultaneously?

3. If you use the link rtsp://IP Address/stream1, is it possible to stream the camera from a PC on the same network via VLC Player?

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Hi,

1. Everything is done on the same local network. I have already mentioned the exact hardware and firmware version of my C100 camera. I am trying to stream locally on a PC with VLC. Both the camera and the PC is connected to my wireless accesspoint which is an Air4920 supplied by my ISP.

2. I have tried having the streaming running in the app on my phone at the same time as I tried the rtsp streaming from my computer. I have also tried from the PC without streaming through the app. At no point have I tried to have more than 2 streams running at the same time.

3. No, see my previous answers.

Thanks.

  @JimmyDansbo @Solla-topee I got the same Problem, also with a C100. Same Hardware and Firmware. Also it doesnt work in Onvif-Homeassistant-Integration, an go2rtc and a motioneye server. But it works with the app and the App "IPCams". Interestingly the Tapo-Homeassistant Integration also seems to have some weird Auth-Problems. Maybe this both is connected? https://community.home-assistant.io/t/custom-component-tapo-cameras-control/231795/962
