What is Sub-GHz technology? 

Sub-GHz also known as Sub-1 GHz is an innovative IoT solution to automate and control smart home devices through a lower than-1Ghz new wireless frequency characterized by Long Range, Less Susceptible to Interference and Extremely Low Power.

TP-Link Tapo brings a new Tapo Sub-G ecosystem with exciting new products smart sensors, smart buttons, 1 -way smart switches, wire-free cameras and more new products which are centrally managed by the Tapo smart hub.

Q4.  Can the Tapo smart hub work with motion sensors or accessories from a different manufacturer? 

No. Tapo smart hub is made for Tapo Sub G devices based on TP-Link private Sub-GHz protocol, sensors or accessories from a manufacturer can not be added Tapo smart hub in Tapo APP. 

Q5. Will the Tapo hub or Sub0G devices  work with TP-Link Tapo smart Wi-Fi products like Smart Lighting, Smart Plug, or Smart Camera?

Tapo Wi-Fi smart devices including Tapo Smart lighting, Smart Plug, and Smart camera are connected to Wi-Fi network directly and does not require a hub to work. 

 

While by Tapo Smart Action (Automation & Smart Action),  you can automate the Tapo Wi-Fi smart devices using Tapo Sub-G devices and build much more abundant smart action scenarios (the FAQ will include more scenarios when the Sub-G models are released).

Hi there,

 

Longtime Kasa user now migrating to Tapo products in our new home.

 

I'm wondering if Tapo products form a mesh network and that, by adding different Tapo products in different locatipons, this extends the overall network's range? I'm aware that my Philips Hue bulbs (using Zigbee, a different network protocol, I realise) and wondering if Tapo has similar smarts? This would help me plan out Tapo placement in the new place.

Hi,
For the Tapo products that do not support sub-G, they need to connect to the Wi-Fi of the router directly to go to the internet, and this usage scenario won't extend the router's Wi-Fi range. 
For the Tapo products that support the sub-G, they need to connect to a Tapo hub, and the hub connects to the router to go to the internet. These Tapo products can be farther than the other Tapo devices that connect to the router's Wi-Fi directly in some usage scenarios, but the Tapo products won't form a mesh network.

  @Solla-topee thanks for the Sub-G write-up. Where the graphic shows the mobile phone with a TP-Link icon does that denote the TAPO app? Are there any TP-Link 'servers' involved as they aren't shown in the graphic? 

Not necessary a Sub-G query, but do you have an article showing the comms route taken by a TAPO smart device? 
Where are schedules stored on the device within the app or in on a TP-Link server?

Hi,
1. The graphic shows the mobile phone with a TP-Link icon referring to the Tapo app. The Tapo devices are controlled and managed via the Tapo app, generally, if you control the Tapo devices remotely, it involves the TP-Link cloud server, and the command route should be the Tapo app sends the command to the cloud server, and then the cloud server sends the command to the Tapo device and the Tapo device execute the command.

 

2. What Tapo product do you have, and what schedule settings are you referring to?

Perhaps the "cloud server" could be added when time allows to the graphics to complete the picture? 

2/ Re "schedules" - I'm referring to the Schedule in the app to turn things off and on etc. 
I'm using smart bulbs but will soon have plugs and cameras as well. 

Are schedules/automations stored differently for different devices?
Does the Hub come into play storing schedules/automations if used for applicable devices?

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion, and we'll consider it to improve the picture.
Generally, the schedule settings you configured on the specific device's settings page are saved on the device itself, such as the on/off schedule entries configured on the Wi-Fi smart plug or bulb page, and if the devices connect to the hub to work, such as some Tapo battery cameras, the notifications/alarm schedule settings saved on the hub Tapo H200 and the camera. The smart action/automation entries will be stored on the TP-Link cloud server.
