If you unplug the TV and plug it directly into the outlet in you'll see how it will behave when controlled with the HS110. Most modern TVs will not turn on in that case. But then again most modern TVs use a tiny amount of electricity in standby mode and the HS110 is going to add a few watts itself. The break even period of adding an HS110 is probably best measured in decades.
