Why the switch to online only?

Model: HS200
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 5.26

Hello,

In the past years, I've changed all switch, dimmer and outlet in my home for Kasa/Tapo device (mostly kasa). I also installed tapo camera. I love the ecosystem, it work great and it's locally control.

But about around last year, a switch was done. A new switch appear which can control a fan and a light dimmer (finaly!). But this switch cannot be controled locally like the other light. In fact, it require authentification to Tapo Cloud to then be able to control it. If you block internet for that switch, the switch stop working from locally control device like OpenHab or HomeAssistant.

And then, this started happening to other older device. I just bought today a new HS200 for the last remaining dummy switch I had. I have Hardware version is 5.26. I already have some 5.0 installed that work great. But the new 5.26? Must use the tapo cloud login now. Why??? You were a favorite among the home automation ecosystem having created so much device that were reliable and worked offline. Now, this is going away and nobody understand why. I nearly regret now that I have over 100 kasa device because I don't want my iot device to be cloud connected, that's why I have my own home automation server.

I do see other stuff were added to that HS200 that my other doesn't have. And this is also something I don't understand. Most of these stuff can be added with a firmware update, so why it isn't standardize? For instance, my old HS200 v 5.0 firmware 1.0.11. When I go into esetting, I have LED Status and that's it. My new one on 5.26 firmware 1.0.3? I have default state, auto-off timer, delated shut off and led control. There's even a new group feature. I really don't understand why all of these aren't ported to older generation since it's 100% software bound and doesn't need tapo cloud to set (at least beside the group feature).

Please, send a firmware update that restore local only fonctionnality without authentication for all kasa device. I can understand for security camera, but for light switch, outlet and such, please allow us to continue to control them offline like we were always used to be able to.

THank you

I guess this post will end up burried since TP-Link don't care about this. It's too bad cause in the money for quality range, it used to be the defacto buy. Nice looking device, working properly most of the time and doesn't cost a lot. But the cloud requirement that remove local control is a very bad thing. I can't believe my on/off call need to go over the internet to turn on/off my light when it could be done directly between my home automation and the switch directly.
