Recording period is not as expected
On March 9th, I installed a 64GB SanDisk microSD card in my Tapo C500 CCTV. According to the user guide, at 2MP video resolution, the expected recording duration should be approximately 192 hours, or 8 days. I've observed, however, that the camera only retains recordings for the last 4 days, effectively halving the advertised storage capacity. This significant deviation from the specified recording time is concerning. I'm now hesitant to purchase another microSD card for my second camera, as I'm unsure of the reliability of the storage capacity and would like to understand the reason for this discrepancy.

Hi,
You can find the camera's "Maximum Recording Hours" information in the following instructions.
What Type of microSD Card does Tapo/Kasa Camera Support?
If your camera's resolution and frame rate are 2MP (1920*1080) @15fps, the 64GB microSD card can store 192H continuous recordings. However, if your camera's resolution and frame rate are 2MP (1920*1080) @30fps, the recording hours will be half 192H. The maximum recording hours are not only related to the resolution but also the frame rate.

@Solla-topee Thanks for the quick response!
I just checked my settings and frame rate is 15fps and resolution is 1080p. I don't understand why it is still recording the last four days instead of eight

Hi,
1. Could you please send me(@Solla-topee) your camera's MAC address via a private message? Are you checking the frame rate on the camera's Device Settings > Video & Display > Frame Rate page?
2. After you format the SD card inserted into the Tapo C500 and then record video continuously for 4 days, on the camera's Device Settings > Storage & Recording > Local Storage page, is the capacity of the SD card full? Can you send us a picture of the Local Storage page?

Hi,
The recording durations in the table in this instructions are estimated based on the average video bitrate measured in the laboratory. The actual recording duration in usage may vary depending on factors such as scene complexity, proportion of dynamic scenes, frame rate settings, and the resolution supported by the camera model.
In your case, excluding the influence of camera resolution and frame rate settings, please check whether there are a lot of motions in the area monitored by Tapo C500. For example, whether the camera is monitoring a street with a lot of people, etc.? Can you send me a picture of the camera's live view page?
You can upload the video to your cloud server(such as Google Drive), generate a link to download it and send me(@Solla-topee) the link via a private message.
Best Regards
