Model: Tapo D130
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

As impractical as it may sound, I'm debating purchasing the Tapo D130 doorbell camera and affixing it over the peephole from the inside of my apartment suit door. Using either tape or velcro to secure the camera in line with the peephole, this would theoretically give me a tiny FOV in the center of the camera's sensor, but I live in an area where installing a doorbell camera on the hallway side of my door would likely result in theft or damage. The other option is to disassemble the lens from the doorbell and install an extension tube to fit in the hole, but I doubt this would work, as the lens and the sensor would have to remain fixed together.

Any feedback on using the doorbell camera positioned to look through the peephole?

Tapo D130 has a wide-angle lens. If you try to use it through a peephole on your door, the image quality will be severely degraded. More importantly, this setup would defeat its primary purpose as a doorbell. Instead, you may want to consider opting for a slim-profile security camera (e.g., Tapo C111, Tapo C125, Tapo C100.)designed for such installations.

However, please note that any obstructions in front of the camera lens, including peepholes, will compromise not only video clarity but also software features like motion detection.

Disassembling the product is not a good idea as this will void the warranty.

@Wayne-TP Thank you for the reply! Can Tapo consider making a peephole camera for people who live in an apartment? That would be something I'd buy to compliment all my other Tapo cameras and devices! As it is now, I have to consider other brands which (I assume) will not work with the Tapo app.
