Model: Tapo C230
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.1

Just received and installed my Tapo C230. I'm experiencing significant issues in the app and also with ONVIF.

App regularly locks up and doesn't display a feed. If I try and access the playback section everything freezes and I can never view my footage. Reducing the resolution doesn't seem to help.

I've also been unable to get commands to work via ONVIF despite having a C200 in the same setup that is working well. Weirdly, RTSP stream is very reliable, which makes me suspect that this could be a firmware issue, rather than an environmental one.

Wi-Fi connection is excellent (approximately 2 metres line of sight from the router) and is situated in the same location as a previously working C100.

Hi,
You can refer to the instructions below to troubleshoot when fail/slow to load the camera's live feed and video recordings.
What should I do if I can't view the Tapo&Kasa camera?

On the camera's Device Settings > Device Info page, please tap the Wi-Fi icon and check the RSSI value.

What commands do not work via Onvif?

Best Regards

Signal strength is reading at -37 RSSI, which is excellent.

With ONVIF, I wasn't able to pan or tilt the camera, nor send it to a preset location. I believe I've managed to find the fault.

I originally had continuous recording enabled 24/7. Since disabling this and swiching to detection recording, the app is no longer freeing and the ONVIF commands are now responding. This would appear to be a bug?

Hi,
Usually, the Onvif commands have nothing to do with the SD card settings. You can try to enable the continuous recording again and check if the Onvif Pan & Tilt command will work.
If you have a different microSD card, you can use it to replace the one inserted into the camera, and check if the camera will work fine even when enable continuous recording.
Best Regards

@Solla-topee I think there's a misunderstanding. I'm not suggesting that ONVIF is the root cause - what I've discovered is that continuous recording is causing the unit to become unresponsive, with both the Tapo app and ONVIF being affected.

I've tested with another SD card and it's the same outcome. The SD card has come out of another working Tapo camera, so I know it's compatible.

Re-enabling continuous recording immediately results in the Tapo app becoming unresponsive.

Hi,
Please help confirm the following information if you want to further analyze the issue.
  1) Send me the model number and capacity of the microSD cards used on the Tapo C230.
  2) Please refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log and app log, and let me know if you have collected them.
How to get the log of Tapo Camera
How to get the log of Tapo app
