Creating a procedure and firing it

Creating a procedure and firing it
Creating a procedure and firing it

Hello Tapo Community,
I would like to create a procedure that checks all my entrances and sends me a message if all of them are closed.
Unfortunately, I cannot find a way to trigger this directly from my phone. A shortcut does not allow me to differentiate between cases where everything is fine or if an entrance is open. On the other hand, an automation cannot be triggered from the phone.
The only way I find so far is use a smart button and associate this procedure to a click event.
Could someone help me find a better solution?
Thank you!

  Hi @brizzpa

you are correct, you cannot trigger an automation from the phone. I have a work around if you want to try it... however you will need a spare smart plug (or other device) which is not used for anything else to be used only as a trigger as follows.

  • Create a shortcut which when pressed will toggle on/off the "spare smart plug"
  • Use this this smart plug as your "When" trigger for your automation routine. i.e. when smart plug "Turn On/Off"

Not ideal as you will need to purchase an extra device, but this will work.

Happy for any-one else to suggest an alternative. Maybe we should raise a feature request to allow shortcuts to trigger automations??

Good Luck.
