Model: Tapo C325WB
Hardware Version: V20
Firmware Version: Latest

I have been really disappointed that TP-Link under the Tapo brand appear to be concentrating all new camera releases on Solar power or battery.

For those of us in poor light environment, long periods of heavy rain, thick clouds and strong winds, this is not a solution.

The previous TP-Link Kasa cameras where excellent, better build quality,  wired, terminated in USB, for simple installation into all outside waterproof units.

Any plans by TP-Link to release an outdoor high quality camera powered by USB connection?

Your post has been transferred to the Feature Request block and tagged as 'New Product Idea'. Any user who also interest in this kind of product, please vote for this thread and share your thoughts in the comment section.

I'd be curious to hear what's drawing you to this type of product. If I'm understanding correctly, is it the kind where the camera and power cable are combined, with a USB connection on the end? What is it about the USB interface that appeals to you in particular?

Hi @Wayne-TP

Solar power is not ideal in countries with low light levels and harsh weather conditions, plus the large size looks quite ugly on a property with period features.

Battery power is no good for cameras that are set at high, for example, I have both 24 hr SD/Care recording and use the night vision ans LED light features, for picture quality and intruder deterrent. This is a must on all modern cameras, so recharging batteries and having long ladders is both a chore and a danger.

In the UK, most properties have outside property power supplied by water proof sockets, these are common place and many homes.

The original Kasa cameras terminated in USB, so small USB plugs fit perfectly into these power housings. I have these cameras at multiple properties, as do families and friends.

The Wide angle night vision Tapo equivalent, terminate in an oversized UK plug, that will not fit in any outside UK waterproof power socket casing.

As such, it was a big step backwards for TP-Link to move from Kasa to Tapo for UK/European customers by using an older style plug.

Here is an example of an outside socket found across the UK, the Tapo plugs are simply too large (deep) to fit inside the housing,  of any brand.

As such, I may have to move all my cameras to another manufacturer.
