Model: Tapo RV20
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I’ve been having a frustrating experience with my TP-Link Tapo RV20. Within just 7 months, I faced multiple issues: the water tank leaked, it frequently displayed “device trapped” and stopped cleaning, it cleaned in circles, skipped mopping entirely, or mopped excessively wet. Every day, there seemed to be a new problem.

After claiming the warranty, I received a replacement, but unfortunately, the issues persist. The new unit exhibits the same problems: incomplete cleaning, abrupt “device trapped” errors, cleaning in circles, inconsistent mopping, and other recurring issues. It’s becoming a daily hassle.

Why is this such a pain? Why is the software seemingly getting worse over time?

I’ve already tried remapping and resetting the device twice, but nothing seems to improve. Can someone help?

  @Sushanth

If there are several product issues, we recommend reaching out to the local TP-Link support for efficient assistance.

About the water leak problem, did you add any cleaning agent to the water tank? Cleaning agents can potentially corrode the water tank and internal hardware.

As for the "incomplete cleaning' issue, did you stop it in the app or did anyone press the button on the robot vacuum itself? The message says "Cleaning job stopped manually".

@Wayne-TP i have already connected with tp link service multiple times and reset the device and this is a very new replacement device that i received last month. I don't have the water leak issue anymore.

but the main problem is the software. I stopped the device manually because it was showing multiple errors like "device trapped" when there is nothing and its on a plane surface and it always fails to clean the mapped surface completely as u can see in my screenshots shared ealier how zig zag it cleans sometimes.

there is a very huge software problem. It used to do perfectly earlier not its just too bad. Pls help me

Mine is also acting very weird lately.

It started with a messed up map of the house before it worked good, I had no problems.

So I let it do it's thing so the robot made a new map of the house and there I already saw it was struggling,

it was not riding under my couch (before without a problem).

So I forced it by blocking it with my hand several times so it would go under my couch and then it scanned that area.

Now it has made it's new map of the house and it's still doing it's first cleaning job of the whole house. I started it after noon and it's now 6:30 evening, it had to charge 2 times it's battery and it's also making those weird cicular shapes.

My guess is the automatic firmware updates.

If it stays like this I'm gonna send it back, I have this robot from last year in July.

Well my bad, I cleaned the lidar sensor with a damp cloth and afterwards with a dry cloth. Previous I only used a dry cloth.

Now I did a test and it's not making these circles anymore, I only vacuumed one room but it was good now.

Although there's room for improvement. My previous cheap Chinese robot without Lidar vacuumed the corners a lot better

(maybe something for the engineers to improve that) wink
