Tapo C425 Kit - Missing events with 'Person detection' mode on only
Hi all,
I got this camera the other day. I have a setup in which I am only interested in events triggered by persons. Therefore I have only the person detection mode on, with it's specific zone defined.
When I first set it up, I tried immediately after and it detected me perfectly. Then I left the camera on and a few persons came by maybe after 3/4 hours and I got no recordings or alerts/notifications. Then, what I did was deactivate the person detection mode and immediately activate it again. Then tried it and it worked again perfectly.
After that I left it on for a while and the same happened, it missed events and I got no recordings or alerts/notifications. Then I did the same, deactivate the person detection mode and immediately activate again. Then tried a d it worked again perfectly!
I think it gets stuck somehow after a while and stop identifying the person events. It is very weird and I wonder if any of you have experienced something similar. Could it be faulty?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards
Fran

Hi,
Since Tapo C425 is a battery-powered camera, it may be the camera goes into sleep mode and can't wake up by the person's motion. Please check if the following instructions will be helpful.
What to do if the Detection feature is not working on the TP-Link Camera?
Detection Range Test: test the activity detection zone of the Tapo Battery Camera
If the problem remains, please go to the camera's live view page, and then manually record the person's motion that can't be recorded after the camera works for a while, then send us the video for analysis.
You can upload the video to your cloud server(such as Google Drive), generate a link to download it, and send me(@Solla-topee) the link via a private message.

I can confirm it is none of that because it works fine and then doesn't work. I think what you are saying makes sense, the camera seem to go to sleep at some point, I don't understand why. The battery is above 90 always as I have it in a good spot for sun. I will do the video as you requested but in the meantime can you please think about reasons for the camera going to sleep on its own? Is it faulty? Is it a firmware issue? Could you fix it in your next update? Because I am thinking about returning it...
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Typically, for battery-powered cameras, if there are no events that happen in front of the camera for a while and you do not watch the camera's live feed, the camera will go into sleep mode automatically for the sake of power saving. The camera can be woken up when doing some operations on the APP like watching the camera’s live view or being woken up by the PIR sensor.
What is the Wake-up Sensitivity of my battery camera/doorbell?
In your situation, it's recommended to set the Wake-up Sensitivity to 10 and use the Detection Range Test feature to confirm the area that activity is capable of triggering the camera's detection mechanism.
Ensure the motions are in that specific area, and the camera can be woken up usually.

Thanks for your response but it is not a solution to anything. I don't want the camera to go to sleep in order to save battery and miss events. Also I don't want to be thinking that I have to constantly open the app so it wakes up, etc. Apologies but this is completely silly, I hope you understand.
You need to sort that out through firmware and at least provide the option to the user of deactivating that functionality. Otherwise this camera is completely useless in my opinion.
I am very surprise that the camera has so many good reviews with a big issue like this. I am returning it until you are able to provide a solution for this. For now I will have to go with other brand.

Hi,
Usually, the battery-powered camera can be woken up by the event with proper settings configured when it goes into sleep mode, that's why I provided the suggestions in the previous thread to check.
For the feature you requested, while we don't have any specific details that I can share about if this feature can come to the product or when it might, I'll log it and pass it along to the team to evaluate.

Hi again,
I appreciate you tried helping with configuration settings. However, it has been confirmed that everything is configurated correctly because it has been proven to work fine every time I enter in live mode or do a quick reset of detection mode off/on. The problem is that the camera enters sleep mode after a period of inactivity and it is not able to wake up. Whether it is an inbuilt functionally for battery saving thing or not I don't know. But it essentially makes the camera useless in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing feedback

Hi,
The camera works after you enter its live view page or change its settings, but it does not mean that the current settings and installation position & angle are the most suitable for your usage scenario and the easiest to wake up the camera. If you are willing to continue troubleshooting, it is recommended that you provide the following information for further analysis.
1. Is the Wake-up Sensitivity value set to 10?
2. Please go to the camera's live view page, and then manually record the person's motion that can't be recorded after the camera goes into sleep mode, then send us the video via a private message.

As confirmed in earlier messages the camera is installed good enough for it to detect perfectly the movement and trigger notifications shortly after setting/re setting the detection in/off. It doesnot need to be in live mode.
The issue is that randomly go to sleep after a while (random time) and then from that it does not wake up even if an elephant is in front of it. You have said it is a battey saving function, I don't understand. All I can tell you is that the camera have a big issue there which needs to be sorted out. It is nothing to do with installation angle or sensitivity or other stuff. I hope it is clear after all my investigation and previous messages.
I was forced to return the camera unfortunately.
